Meanwhile Dow down about 800 points in 2 days. China in trouble.

There are still some good stories here, but it’s become clear that in recent months Josh has relegated most of the editing work to the more Gawker oriented staff.

“Attempted to calm him down?” And that’s good enough? An appropriate response would have been to kick him out of the fraternity, permanently ban him from the premises, and report him to the university and police. “Attempted to calm him down” doesn’t even begin to cut it.
So, once again, an organization dedicated to coercing mindless conformity of thought, action and attitude to the norms of the group is deemed not responsible for the actions of a few misguided individuals who have to ruin a good time for everyone by breaking the rules.

Which is going to have more impact on the economy: TPM’s opinion on China or what happens with Trump?
More policy would be nice and if people knew more about policy sounder political decisions would be made. That said, voters are basing their votes on their readings of the candidates’ characters and it matters whether Trump’s reaction to this beating shows him to be a man or a monster.

Honestly, I think there’s something very important in the fact that the actual leading GOP candidate for the Presidency after even a substantial portion of the nomination process is a candidate who is obviously campaigning only as a fake media stunt to bolster his celebrity credentials.
For all The Donald’s braggadacio, he actually can’t fund a long-haul presidential campaign out of his own pocket without inviting his own financial ruination. To the best of my knowledge, he still hasn’t taken any outside funding that would require him to comply with onerous campaign finance rules. Without those rule-bound sources of funding, he can’t win the nomination, much less the general.
Ergo, Trump is not really running for president. He’s running to increase his profile as a media figure–and doing that very well.
But how can it not be important that the party which probably has a leg-up for the Presidency (assuming the usual rhythm of swinging back and forth each administration) is currently being dominated by a guy who’s just trying to pimp his reality-TV show?

Agree. Trump’s candidacy is quite an unusual political phenomenon. If he was trailing or an also-ran, it wouldn’t warrant this kind of attention, but he’s leading by an unprecedented wide margin.
Because he is so nakedly racist and misogynist, it’s somewhat shocking to see how much support he’s got, and it’s admittedly fun to watch the media and his rivals stumbling to take positions, either fawning over him and shrinking from Trump’s bellicose roars, or tentatively criticizing him and getting slapped down and punished with withering poll numbers.
I do not apologize for clicking on Trump articles. I am fascinated by the rapid growth of the Trump malignancy and I will watch it until it consumes its host - the Republican party.
