Discussion for article #238217
So, here in Marion County, which has, what, 300,000 people, how can one DECENT man decide to take it off a flagpole?
fixed it
“We live in America, and the last time I checked it was a democracy.
You live in Amerka, because you treasonous bastards lost the war to be NOT Amerkan.
The County Commission unanimously approved a move to fly the flag again
days later, saying members would meet with historians to discuss placing
markers by the flag to “explain its historical significance.”
Heritage! History! Honor! Respect for the Fallen Valiant of the Confederacy! And stuff!
…but not about treason, oppression, and slavery. So sayeth the voices of “wisdom” of Marion County. Let’s see if the voices of reason regain the upper hand.
At least we know not to give that county any of our tourism dollars…
In response, GOP/Teatroll pollsters retabulated their electoral vote predictions for 2016…
This will work out well for them.
Notice it never occurred to the quoted individual that any of the original deciders could have been female, decent or otherwise.
"…saying members would meet with historians to discuss placing markers by the flag to “explain its historical significance.”
…saying members would meet with faux historians to discuss how to hang the flag with a euphamized white-wash rewrite of its history…
FIFY
Marion County is one of the nation’s hotbeds of KKK murders. See this re David Lee Mack’s 1979 death:
The KKK murdered 150 in one Florida county alone. See:
Michael Newton, The Invisible Empire: The Ku Klux Klan in Florida, pp. 1–30. Newton quotes from the Testimony Taken by the Joint Select Committee to Enquire into the Condition of Affairs in the Late Insurrectionary States, Vol. 13. Washington, D.C.: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1872. Among historians of the Klan, this volume is also known as The KKK testimony.
in 2000 - the racial makeup of the county was 84.16% White, 11.55% Black or African American,
… un-named sources say they hope to get that 11.55% down under 5.0% by 2020 …
Possibly because it was a man that made the decision he was referring to:
Interim County Administrator Bill Kauffman had made the decision to remove the flag because of the “perceived connotations”
Unless it was a woman named Bill, which I suppose is possible although unlikely.
“…and the last time I checked it was a democracy.”
Love this one, every time I hear it. Such principle, such sophistication. I think I was 10 the first time I busted that one out. Felt pretty clever too, like I really put Mom & Dad in their place. Take that, would-be oppressors.
You got it - I live in the next county and that place is Redneckistan. Home to The Villages Retirement (Keep Your Government Hands Off MY Medicare) Community that is chocka block full of tea partyin’ old geezers . That area voted about 65- 70 % for McCain in 08 and Romney in 12. The Faux nooze demographic contained in one glorious county. Rick Scott felon governor is a superstar there and any Republican wanting a freindly crowd only need show up.
We live in America, and the last time I checked it was a democracy.
No thanks to those who flew that flag.
members would meet with historians to discuss placing markers by the flag to “explain its historical significance.”
This should be good.
Fat chance
horrifying
Bucking the national trend of removing the Confederate flag from public spaces, one Florida county voted Tuesday to put the stars and bars back up after a brief hiatus.
The flag they are flying is neither the real stars and bars Confederate national flag nor the battle flag often called the stars and bars today. What they are flying is called the Blood Stained Banner, which is a modification of the Stainless Banner (or, to put it more directly, as the flag’s designer did, the White Man’s Flag).
So, I choose to note that the Florida county resumed flying a flag that was used in treason against the United States and is a modified version of what was known as the White Man’s Flag.
May your children learn to be ashamed by your actions, Marion County Commission.
“One Confederate flag supporter…”
His name is David Stone of the “Florida Southern Pride Ride.” Wonder if he prefers to wear white and keeps his identity anonymous while wearing white.
