And he sprinkles coal ash on his Big Macs regularly.

Really, really lucky for Duke Power that this happens under the Trump/Pruitt/Wheeler EPA. Just a slap-on-the-wrist fine for massive environmental damage.

Damage? No Damage. You’re the Damage. Coal is clean.

Let’s see:

Dismantling EPA regulations…check
Ignoring climate change…check
Corporate takeover of government…check

Really “nice” to see the effects of Republican policy in one incident. Of course, North Carolinians will pay with their health and pocketbook.

Environmental destruction continues in a big way…I remember when Rachel reported on a similar spill in NC a few years back.

Trump’s right, you can’t bomb the coal the way you can a pipeline, because it poisons you before you can try. Mercury, lead, and arsenic, all ready to go into the water system. That’s just dandy. #MAGA #MINIMATA

Isn’t Scott Pruitt seeking a job in the coal industry? Well here 'tis…get him a shovel, mop and broom and get after it.

The pig manure ponds that are spread around NC are next. Willie Nelson is updating his song to Cry Me a River of Pig Shit.

And the rain hasn’t stopped. Record flood stages in affected NC rivers.

Ryan Maue, a meteorologist for weathermodels.com, calculated that the storm will dump the equivalent of 18 trillion gallons of rain, enough to cover Texas in four inches of water and fill the Chesapeake Bay.

That’s a lot of water.

Coal-ash storage won’t be a danger for long.

Trumpp’s EPA is working on rules that would require the owners of ash-storage sites to periodically flush the sites with water to ensure that no heavy metals or other toxins remain.

“Duke Energy has been conducting tests and small pilot trials of the concept,” an EPA spokesperson said, “and early results indicate that the method provides substantial reductions in the amount of the target substances found in the storage sites at a remarkably low cost.”

So what happens to the contaminated leachate? It has to be stored or disposed of somewhere. They’re “solving” one problem by creating another. The long-term solution is to stop burning fucking coal.

That’s a joke, son!
