Discussion: Florence Close To Landfall In North Carolina, Bringing Huge Storm Surge

A basement in a hurricane featuring storm surge. She is the definition of stupid. Must be a Trump supporter.

You know what the elevation is there? 10 feet. The whole place could end up underwater. In New Bern the people who remained are retreating to their upper floors as the water rises. Other, more sensible people will have to risk their own lives to save them.

She’s got her addition and subtraction mixed up.

“Hmm, 11 feet of water minus my 10 feet of basement height? I’ll only be sloshing around in 1 foot of water.

Yup, can ride it out…”

“We have a safe basement and generator that comes on automatically."

Someone else who doesn’t know the difference between a hurricane and a tornado.

And as we face this horror, the WH is planning on having POTUS throw paper towels at the victims. Then they’ll claim that the response was a complete success.

This is the fight I always have with my first responder friends: Don’t save people who are too stupid to take basic precautions. Much better to let nature remove them from the gene pool.

I know exactly how you feel but I see the first responders’ side of it too. It’s simpler just to go and save the people.

And the first self-congratulatory tweet made landfall 13 minutes ago:

Incredible job being done by FEMA, First Responders, Law Enforcement and all. Thank you!

Lots of hog farm waste and coal fly ash waiting to be inundated and carried away. If it rains and floods as much as predicted, there is an environmental debacle waiting to happened.

My bet is that environmental regulations in NC are pretty weak with respect to ensuring containment of this crap during catastrophic flooding.

I read there were mind-boggling amounts of hog crap contained in simple lagoons. Storm surge will flush it right into the nearest waterway. :grimacing:

Marie Antoinette had nothing on Le Dotard.

Some of it will go to the nearest waterways, but all those are also flooding (and backing up because of the storm surge). So you can expect a not-entirely-uniform deposit of lagoon contents over much of the landscape. Hope the barrier islands are still there, because if they’re not the next one (and there will be) will be even worse.

Now if I were a malicious god planning a just revenge on SC for voting for Trump and neglecting the planet I gave them …

My apologies to all those suffering from this storm but some need to rethink their attitude towards Pat Robertson.

Pat Robertson says cruel things like that about things that happen to liberals and continues to strut around like a holy man. It is time that that is rethought.
