Discussion: Flake Wishes Muslim Senate Challenger Well After Islamophobic Abuse

Sigh. It’s not heroic in itself, or anything. Just simple decency really. But you almost want to put it up on the refrigerator anyway, like your young child’s efforts at art, because the circumstances make it a bit more meaningful.

Thank you for a little decency in partisan politics. The silence from all others is deafening.

Trump: I always knew that Flake sides with terrorists. He will never get Putin’s approval.

Nice first step. It may earn you a primary challenge. Next would be to stand up to the leadership of your own party.

It’s refreshing to see a glimmer of humanity, however fleeting, from a Republican.

It’s enough to get him kicked from the club, though…

Once upon a time, there was another Republican who was capable of speaking unapologetically and with blunt honesty on behalf of constitutional rights for all Americans. What happened to that guy is a puzzle.

I mostly think Flake did it to get under Donnie’s skin. Not a whole lot the dipstick can do because pissing off Congress will just get his head delivered to Mueller

It is nauseating that this does have to be viewed as a bold move by Flake. It is further discomforting to have to recognize that within the ultra right GOP base - Flake will pay a price for having done this.

He was taken hostage…

How sad, that it’s noteworthy when a Republican actually stands up for simple things like, you know, human dignity, and civility, and tolerance, and (of course) the U.S. Constitution.

I don’t have any illusions that Flake really represents my own interests, but he’s in a different category than most other GOPers today in that he seems to have at least a tiny shred of integrity.

Flake, being a Mormon, may be sensitive to religion-based prejudice. I can’t stand the man. Still do. Still will, even if he were to donate to a sick children’s hospital. But not because he’s a Mormon, but because he’s a reactionary idiot.

It is not a puzzle - he was & is a duplicitous opportunistic asshole - who only looks at each moment in time as “how can this personally benefit me - or satisfy my inner urge to crap on other people”

More expensive than saffron…

Meh. Leave the GOP and renounce it fully and then we’ll talk. Otherwise, you’re an enabler and it cancels all else out.

I think his willingness to be a Trump dignity wraith was just one of the final acts in Christie’s descent. Bridgegate happened two years prior to Trump’s ascent, and Christie’s actions in that clusterfuck revealed how thoroughly he had been conquered by his own inner demons of arrogance and self-destructive vindictiveness.

Maybe. It’s kind of like the kid finally drew you a nice picture using crayons but spends all the rest of the time drawing on the walls with his feces. You don’t want to discourage him in response to him finally getting it right, but man, he still got shit everywhere.

or satisfy my inner urge to crap on other people"

Not contesting that he’s an asshole, but at least Christie enthusiastically crapped on the Sharia Law paranoids as “crazies,” which is something I don’t think I’ve heard another prominent Republican even get close to doing.

Last I heard he was still stuck in the sand waiting for AAA.
