Flake’s got me totally stumped. If he was going to vote yes all along, why in the world would he extend this whole thing for an additional week+??? He could’ve gotten his yes vote in without the devastating testimony by Dr. Ford. How did this help him personally or the GOP politically at all?
Well it is obvious for all the looks of concern, self doubt and appearance of intense inner turmoil, Jeff is going to be Jeff. See, the report says good to go. Conscience cleared. Jeff wanders off, whistling a happy tune until the need to contort his face muscles again into unfamiliar grimaces strikes again.

Kind of hard to get corroborating evidence when you don’t talk to the people who have it and are trying to share it.

How long is that list of potential corroborators begging to be heard? How about the topic of alcoholism? Was it investigated at all?

I’m back to the fact that the only recourse now is for Ford to file both criminal and civil lawsuits against Kavenagh in Maryland. Then she’ll have a real day in court, with people under oath. She can wait until after the election to do it. It’s her duty to do it.

It was a smart move on his part. Maybe he was honestly seeking a bit of due diligence, or maybe, more cynically, it allowed him to appear as part of the reasonable middle between two highly emotional poles. The hearing last week was about raw emotion and indignation. I throw my lot in with Dr. Ford, but we all can recognize the indignation – false or not – that the nominee and Sessions displayed. Whether theatre or real, that was the state of play, and allowing for a limited review by the FBI gave everyone a path forward. Unfortunately for our side the poll numbers went the wrong direction in the meantime.

Until then make Republicans pay as much a political price as possible.
Think of what Flake is doing as something like an oral resume. He’s pitching to future employers, lobbying firms and law firms in particular to establish his bona fides as a reliable republican.
So, Flake means to run for president with his spineless stance on Kav as an example of what an exemplary leader he’d be. OTOH, Ivana Trump and Kris Jenner think their children would make good presidents too. Self delusion can be very comforting at the end of a long day.

But as others have pointed out, with Kavanaugh confirmed the base’s anger — their only motivator — is assuaged and all of their outrage disappears. It’s a double-edged sword they’ve wielded.
