“I’m a completely unprincipled jerk, but at least I’m being honest… for once.”
“No, not a chance,” Flake told “60 Minutes” on Sunday when asked if he would’ve made the same decision had he been seeking reelection. “There’s no value to reaching across the aisle, there’s not currency for that anymore, there’s no incentive.”
"Nor, if you are a Republican in office, is there any value or incentive for the truth, reasoned and considered debate and decision-making, or the rule of law being applied to your own kind.
It will be interesting to see what Flake does after he leaves the Senate. He may be setting himself up for a run for POTUS but the hard right will never support him and he isn’t an option for the Democrats. If he is doing this for ethical reasons, more power to him, but my cardinal rule now is to never trust a Republican, any Republican.
An ounce of honesty is always refreshing, even if it comes in a pint of cynicism.
I used to be opposed to term limits, using the tired “let the voters decide” defense. But too many voters are uninformed idiots, so we need term limits. This is proof.
Jeff Flake - Profile in Coura, er, self-preservation!
There he is again, the real Jeff Flake, Mr. No Spine.
Exactly the words that came to my mind.
There’s no value to reaching across the aisle, there’s not currency for that anymore, there’s no incentive.
How about doing the right thing, regardless of whether it helps you get reelected or not? Does that consideration ever, just once, enter your tiny little peabrain?
“There’s no value to reaching across the aisle, there’s not currency for that anymore, there’s no incentive.”
I wonder why that is…
I wonder if Flake or any other Republican has thought about how much power they have handed over to nominees? A crass, craven Republican nominee looking for a lifetime appointment will promise them anything, trot out their conservative creds, and then demand more. They, the Republican Senators, are wrecking the third branch for their values, while the nominee will keep going back to them for money to decide cases that Republicans want, it will be corruption and greed all the way down.
Sure says a lot about R voters.
But we already knew that.
Mitch McConnell?

Don’t be silly. He’s a Republican.
I’d say it started with Gingrich.
Hatch, Grassley, and McConnell are additional proof. If you aren’t up with the times, you don’t belong in Congress.
The US deserves better. Sickening jackassery.
“There’s no value to reaching across the aisle, there’s not currency for that anymore, there’s no incentive.”
Good to know. And a fucking sham(e).
Who?
