Discussion: Flake Hits Trump: 'Treason Is Not A Punchline, Mr. President'

Will you back your words up with votes, Senator? No? Then step aside.

And Republicans are not a functioning political party. If you care about the survival of the republic, you’re a Democrat.

Right, Senator?

You beat me to it. He needs to back it up with no votes. Flake has nothing to lose by voting against Trump. So far he is the only Republican who has condemned the treason and they don’t love America remarks.

As somebody said recently, “talk is cheap”.

And Ma Hamhock—running true to form----said that she didn’t care what Flake had to say and that his constituents didn’t care either.

She’s an insufferable asshole.

FFS, stop trying to be a “courageous” Republican; it’s an oxymoron. Just either go with the lemmings or shut the hell up. No one cares what you think. Why not discuss Trump’s new attack on the Dreamers or the budget or a shutdown? No, because “treason” is a cheap word for Republicans these days; it’s fine so what’s the big deal, Jeff?

Is what Trump said about Obama before and after his election treason ?
Is mocking a POW or a Gold Star family treason?

Wow…Senator Flake…so courageous. A true “American Hero”.

It’s interesting to me you mention that. I’ve been saying for over a decade, although I think the truth of it applies to the last 50 years of american politics, that if you want to hasten the downfall of the USofA, then you vote Republican. I’m all for a level playing field, and I think US Hegemony is disastrous for our species as a whole…but it’s still unnerving to realize that the next century will lay in the hands of the Chinese and Russians.

Who’s the bigger fool: President Punchline, or a senator who votes with President Punchline all the time?

“And we must never shrink from opposing it,” he said, “for it is in the opposing this behavior that we defend our noms, our ideals and our values. It is in opposing this behavior that we stand for decency.”

Flake forgets this behavior and destruction of our norms is something cheered on and admired by tens of millions of U.S. citizens. His discontent is not universal, and likely only shared by the slimmest majority of Americans.

Flake is still a conservative. Why would he vote otherwise? He isn’t taking Trump to task for policy. He’s rejecting Trump’s authoritarian tactics.

As liberals/progressives, we despise the policies put forth by this administration. We believe (I think rightly) that those policies damage the country and the people. However, it is his governance tactics that are dangerous to the Republic itself. Flake owes liberals no allegiance, but he is right to stand up to authoritarianism. If only some of his other Repub colleagues would do the same.

C’mon, Jeff. Your laconic speaking style lands like a leather glove before a duel. Put some heart in it, man.

And she prays to baby Jesus just before each performance. What a genuinely grotesque person.

Agreed. He is coming off about as exciting as John Kerry.
