Discussion: Flake: GOP Has 'No Stomach At All' To Change Legislative Filibuster

Give it time and a long sequence of dem legislative filibusters shutting down tax cuts, if not on reconciliation, abortion limiting, and other RW bigot legislation.

Oh, Lawd. Enough of this, start winning some elections and make the Republicans the minority they really are. There are more of us than them, we have the winning issues, we just have crappy messaging and no taste for getting down and dirty as necessary to do good.

Shorter Senator Flake: we need the Democrats to block all the terrible legislation the GOP seeks to pass.

In translation: I know how unpopular our ideas are and if we painted ourselves into a corner and had to actually deliver on them it would be back to selling second-hand RVs in Gilbert for me!

Exactly. Especially the crap that comes out of the House.

You know, if Dems get rid of the filibuster when they’re in power, it might be a win-win. When they’re in power, they pass what they want with a simple majority vote. And when the Republicans are in charge, they’re forced to either pass the garbage that comes out of the House or explain why they’re not “real conservatives”.

Flake must have missed the memo that outlines how the Republican party isn’t a party that cares about the country or its people anymore, and will go to nihilistic, callous and eventually destructive measures to ensure they stay in power for the sake of giving rich people free lunches. I wouldn’t put the legislative filibuster off the table, yet. Wait until the opposition to Republican “tax reform” begins to mount and McConnell’s adult diapers start to bunch up again.

If folks would pay attention to what’s going to impact them…

Oh, wait.

The dems have been on teevee more during this Trump disaster than any time I remember in the last 20-something years and doing a great job talking about Trump’s policies and impacts on Americans. Newspapers have been doing a better job also.

What else should dems be doing?

“There is no stomach at all to change the legislative filibuster, so there’s still the requirement to reach across the aisle to get 60 votes,” Flake said on CNN.

Yes, we all fondly remember how the Republicans “reached across the aisle” when drawing up the AHCA so that it would pass the Senate through reconciliation without the need for any Democratic votes.

Such bullshit. He’s turning into McCain the Younger.

They’ll find their stomachs the first time a bill they really want to see passed gets blocked.

This will last as long as the Republicans don’t have a policy change they want to put in place that requires getting past a filibuster. Once that happens, and the Democrats stop some disaster of a bill, the Republicans will find a reason to get rid of the filibuster for that kind of bill. And then the next kind, and the next, each time saying they were forced to do it because of the Democrats…ignoring how the Democrats left the filibuster in place when the Republicans did the same thing. In the end, they will shove through everything they can, however they can, and then complain when the Democrats take over and try to fix the mess they created.

It really is like the Republicans have become a five year old demanding to get everything their way or else.

Flake off, Liar. We’ve heard that before.

Publicly denying it is the first step to changing it.

Gohmert: What do you think of my new bill, Senator?
Flake: Oh, umm, I uhh…filibuster, sorry.

If the GOP nukes the filibuster, that’s okay by me. A majority is sufficient. In the short run, losing the filibuster may hurt Democrats, but, in the long run, it could be a good thing.

“If you want legislation that endures, that is durable, then you reach
across the aisle, and that’s what we have to do on legislation,” Flake
said. “We’ll still have to do that and I’m glad for that. That makes the
Senate the Senate.”

Merrick effing Garland says you are full of crap.
