Flake has no spine, but he does have ambition. That’s a bad combination because you find yourself standing up to do the right thing, then when faced with pressure from your party, you fall in line.

So sad that Flake soon won’t be able any more to preview his voting in the Senate for anything Trump wants with these deeply meaningless calls for others to denounce Trump.
What’s to happen with poor little Flakey when no one in the msm political news media bothers checking him on how he thinks everyone else ought to feel about Trump? Will he go on a state-wide stump campaign to preach to Arizonans how to vote for Trump while denouncing Trump? Or will he stay in Washington in hopes of lobbying the Trump administration for stuff, while delivering restricted audience lunch speeches in the Heritage main dining room on the lost art of issuing utterly hollow denunciations, at which he’s unquestionably a if not the national leader?

Flake must think that there is political capital to be made in making these statements. As he continues to make them. He has done the political calculus. He uses concerned tone. Also, I seem to remember that he had the support of people like David Plotz sometime ago on David’s podcast. The USA press do not seem to be holding him to account - presumably because he will appear to be concerned and reasonable.
