Discussion for article #227208
Is he in prison yet?
Doesn’t learning to think critically involve making one’s own choices? I don’t mind teacher’s making films a part of their curriculum, but a LAW ? I don’t fucking think so. I don’t care who’s film it is.
Will their be a disclaimer that this movie was made by a convicted felon first? And some goofball in the state congress thought it was a good idea for you to be forced to watch it, kids
Hey, have fun trying to get a job.
It’s a propaganda piece, from everything I’ve been able to read about the film and those who have seen it. D’Souza seems to think that as Americans, we can do no wrong and it’s blasphemy to even suggest that anything America has done is ever wrong.
And anyway, why would anyone with even a spark of critical thinking want to take anything that a convicted felon would say with more than a grain of salt?
There’s more historical and educational information in the X-rated film Deep Throat than D’Souza’s America. Far less gagging, too.
Seriously? No! Really! Seriously???
Republicans do not know what critical thinking is
If we want students to “keep that freedom going,” maybe we should teach them to be critically thinking adults.
They can do better than that. Why not D.W. Griffith’s “Birth of a Nation”, including a big helping of racism?
This guy self-disqualifies for his position. He should be impeached immediately and replaced with a competent replacement. The violations of the rights of Floridians by forced tea party indoctrination are astonishing to imagine let alone legislate. Get this guy out of public service!
Trying to force kids to watch this film (and I use that word loosely here) just goes to prove that Republicans really do believe in torture.
talk about indoctrination. Wasn’t some idiot on fox news saying that Obama is indoctrinating children? Or was that just rush limbutt or sean hannity talking the usual crap!
As a retired scientist who’s career depended upon critical thinking skills I would never send someone to Dinesh D’Souza as a source for expertice in that skill.
"Sen. Alan Hays ® plans to introduce a bill
to require students in Florida to watch “America: Imagine A World
Without Her,” since it would be great “instructional material.” "
State Senator Hays should stick to other endeavors, like maybe writing rational laws, rather than indoctrinating young minds with the ruminations of a felon:
Any relation to Rutherford B. Hayes, whose election started the process which ended Reconstruction and stopped racial progress in its tracks for 90 years?
[sometimes kin use different spellings]
Has or D’Souza? Maybe there is a double room w/o a view.
Funny you should ask that, as he was in court today to request of the judge that his sentence be probation and community service. He says he wants to teach for community service. A) don’t want him anywhere near a classroom, B) those of us who teach for a living certainly see it as a service to the community, but not as a punishment. I would be very angry if his sentence for two felonies is he has to do my job.
Should have read down thread a little before posting, I just posted a comment about that very article below, and now I see you linked to it.
I do not like the idea of D’Souza teaching and I also am offended that a state senator would think of using this man’s approach to critical thinking as instructional material for young impressionable minds.
Teaching is an under appreciated and horribly underfunded profession. Teaching is one of the pillars of our whole existence as a nation. It underlies our economy by turning out an educated workforce.
In no way should teaching be thought of as anything but an honorable profession. it sure as hell should not be used and demeaned as “community service” by a convicted felon.
Jeebus, the arrogance of these GOPers defies logic.
