Discussion: FL Co. Failed To Supply Puerto Rico Aid After It Won $30M In FEMA Contracts

I’m shocked that a private company would not meet a contract. I thought capitalism was always better than govmint!

"My brother and I, we are both veterans, so we just came up with a name to do business,” Kayon Jones said. "We’re not saying we have a Bronze Star or anything.”

“And in order to avoid any further confusion, we’re changing the name of our company to ‘Olympic Gold Medal LLC.’”

FEMA awarded the company two contracts Oct. 10 to provide 500,000 tarps and 60,000 rolls of plastic sheeting. Jones said supplying the materials was problematic because most of the raw materials came out of Houston, which was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey.

And yet just yesterday along I40 in East TN (both directions) I saw trucks with loads of plastic sheeting (looked like 4x8 size) and a couple of others with loads of rolled plastic sheeting. I noticed because one of the truck’s load had shifted and I commented to my daughter to avoid following as it was swaying and appeared ready to spill.

They say they weren’t in this to make money. So…are they incorporated as a non-profit? Because if not, I call bullshit on that claim.

Looks to me like the plan was to get the contract based on claims that they could supply American-made tarps, then pull a bait-and-switch and try to get away with providing cheaper, Chinese-made tarps, and pocket the price difference (as well as whatever profit the original arrangement would have provided).

Hustlers gotta hustle.

Buh buh buht the private sector is perfect at everything! How could this have failed?

Damn - I think heckuvajob Brownie would do a better job with contracts than the current clowns. Give a 30 million dollar contract to a newly formed business that has delivered exactly how much product to anyone anywhere demonstrating at least a modicum of a track record? heckuvajob FEMA.

It’s not impossible that these folks were simply incompetent and had no clue about how to fulfill an order that size. Which is why FEMA is supposed to review bids. I wonder what will happen when that process gets looked into.

“We were trying to help; it wasn’t about making money or anything like that,” Jones said.

They’ll go with the one with the Trump seal of approval, that’s something the sons will think up.

We should all give thanks to little Donnie for being such an astute businessman, who has thousands of highly qualified friends from which to select for government jobs. Some of them are still on parole, but we can’t expect perfection.

Who could have imagined staffing organizations with people openly hostile to the mission of the org would end poorly?

“I think it’s now acknowledged what a great job we’ve done. In Texas and in Florida, we get an A+, and I’ll tell you what: I think we’ve done just as good in Puerto Rico.”

Donny told FEMA NOT to do anything . In other words , the contract was won but they were told to do nothing .
