Coverup for all the artifacts stolen by govt officials or staff
Apparently, the entire museum is a total loss—including 400 years of Brazilian history represented by the artifacts on display.
It’s very sad.
On Instagram, Rio Mayor Marcelo Crivella called on the country to rebuild.
“It’s a national obligation to reconstruct it from the ashes, recompose every eternal detail of the paintings and photos. Even if they are not original, they continue to be a reminder of the royal family that gave us independence, the (Portuguese) empire and the first constitution and national unity,” he said.
Hopefully, everyone realizes that this isn’t going to happen. They would need a massive infusion of cash from the wealthiest of Brazil in order to reconstruct such a massive collection. If the ultra wealthy of Brazil didn’t think it was necessary to part with some funds in order to prevent something like this from happening in the first place, the chances are good that they could care less about rebuilding. As far as they’re concerned, not their problem.
