CNN says the attacker is named Alton Alexander Nolen, and unfortunately they’re also saying he had been trying to convert coworkers to Islam. It’s easy to imagine the field day certain news venues and pundits will have with that.

Why do we have to travel to the Middle East to kill their psychopaths? The United States has always supplied most of the truly skilled psychopaths. Home grown crime is the best type of crime.

This is one of the only examples I can think of in which the presence of someone with a gun (other than someone in law enforcement) actually turned out to be a good thing.
Alas, the gun fondlers will point to this single instance as a justification for the hundreds and thousands of needless gun deaths we endure in this country in order to honor a misreading of the Second Amendment.
(Yes, I know he was a reserve sheriff’s deputy, but he was acting in his capacity as COO of the company when this happened.)

It seems strange that you would share the names of the victims, and not their alleged attacker.
So, was he a fanatical follower of Mohammed, a fanatical follower of Jesus, or just a complete fucking lunatic who gravitated to any fundamentalist teaching that might, in a small way, quiet the screaming voices in his head?

Great. Now we’ll get the reminder from the gun nuts and the NRA that it’s vital that everyone, everywhere, be armed all the time.

Rabies is at the top of my List of Ways Not to Die.
A horrible event. The suggestive power of elements of our society which appeal to those wanting to look at train wrecks as opposed to urgent societal needs.
It is more gratifying for some to cotton to these kinds of things as opposed to a story on, for example, the struggles of people trying to deal with still living with Mommy and Daddy in their late twenties.
Disappointing, as the whole “Is My Imaginary Friend Who Lives In The Sky Better Than Your Imaginary Friend Who Lives In The Sky?” question apparently remains unresolved.
