And John Oliver is doing his happy dance.

What the world deserves are people with honor and integrity. The exact type of people Blatter seems to have shunned. Any bets he goes to prison?

Heā€™s gotten his money already, and now that the gravy train is gonna get stopped, he has no reason to hang around and work for ā€˜nothingā€™. Assuming he stays out of jail at all.

His blatter runneth overā€¦
-or-
Blatter upā€¦

Two things prompted the quick turnaround from re-election only 4 days ago to resignation.

  1. The European soccer body began talking revolt - pulling out of the Russia & Qatar World cups, and inviting select South American countries to join them in a separate world championship. Since thatā€™s where most of the money is, it would have killed the World Cup.

  2. Just today ā€œsmoking gunā€ evidence of bribery came out. A letter from the South African Football association to FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke discussing a $10 million (US) payment that is widely understood to be a bribe that helped South Africa get the Cup a few years ago.

Iā€™m guessing heā€™s been notified of a sealed indictment that will soon be unsealed.

My guess as well

I donā€™t think John is going to care deep down much about the whys of his departure as much as the departure itself.

OK a couple of things. Source for allowing a vote to expel Israel. Next, if you had been paying any attention at all over the past week you would know that this vote real or imagined had nothing to do with it. Talk about a bit too much tin foil in your diet

Whereā€™s Waldoā€¦?

Yes, but does this mean he actually has to drink a Bud Light with Lime and say itā€™s delicious?

Wow. I guess he read those comments I made a few days ago and decided to take my advice. Looks like my work here is done.

Seriously, he couldnā€™t have done this 5 days ago and spared FIFA the extra effort for the election of his replacement? Stand down, endorse the Jordanian dude, and exit gracefully.

(It probably would have helped if someone could have whispered in his ear the coming bad news that made him resign.)

@RockGolf - Iā€™ve missed this coverage - where can I go to read up on it?

Besides, this is clearly all about American imperialism and attempts by wicked American imperialists to thwart the legitimate interests and aspirations of the great Russian people and their great leader. cough

@Ignoreland: My original post contains a link to the letter in question. The Guardian has a lot more. A LOT more. The European league pulling out I heard on a sportscast on CBC Radio in Canada. Havenā€™t seen anything in print.

FIFA Head Sepp Blatter Says Arrests Were US Interference, Slams ā€˜Hateā€™ Campaign

Three days earlier, Blatter was defiant and feisty in the same room when fending off questions about FIFAā€™s battered reputation and the chance U.S. federal agencies could seek his arrest.

Dang, DOJ sure handed his ass over quick enough.
