Discussion: Ferguson Police Chief: Officer Who Shot Unarmed Teen May Be Named Friday

Discussion for article #226450

Unforeseen circumstances = The cop’s lawyer gets a restraining order.

Wonder if it will be the same name that Anonymous released yesterday.

George Zimmerman with a badge.

From another article/thread:

“The hacker group Anonymous on Thursday released a name purported to be that of the officer, but the Ferguson police chief said the name was incorrect.”

I can’t see the value of a lie here.
What would be the point?

That police chief needs to be fired, stat.

From a local StL news site (KMOV):

Another witness has emerged in the shooting of Michael Brown:
Mitchell told News 4 she saw a door close on a police car. An officer was inside and Brown, Jr. was on the outside. She said the two were arm wrestling through the car window. Mitchell said she then tried to pull out her phone to record. Shots then rang out.
“It just didn’t look right for them to be arm wrestling,” Mitchell said. “The first gun shot came from the window, so I just started getting out of the way.”

According to Mitchell, Brown, Jr, began to run away after the first shot was fired.
“After the shot, the kid just breaks away. The cop follows him, kept shooting, the kid’s body jerked as if he was hit. After his body jerked he turns around, puts his hands up, and the cop continues to walk up on him and continues to shoot until he goes all the way down,” Mitchell said.

Even if the story about the kid grabbing the cop’s gun is true, that would possibly justify the first shot in the car, but I can’t see how anything could justify shooting a fleeing suspect, who would have to be unarmed, since the cop now has his gun back.

As for the name, it should have been released immediately. Keeping it secret has inflamed tensions. Even from the police perspective, the supposed protection for the one cop has placed all the other officers on the force at risk, since they are all under suspicion until the actual one who shot is named.

Yeah, that is why I was wondering. If it matches, then the Ferguson police chief will be proven to be a liar.

They let the offending officer go free and put the town in custody instead.

No one carrying a weapon ostensibly in the service of the public should be able to conceal their badge number or name tag. Ever. Period.
