I don’t know how to leave a new comment with this new system. So I guess I will reply to this comment. I want folks to know that I called the mayor’s office twice to politely voice my concerns with his response. And I was hung up on. Twice. The 2nd time, she admitted she was purposefully disconnecting me.
Frankly, he’s in waaay over his head here.
This clown doesn’t seem to offer any way to solve the problem.
What two officers have been shot? Who shot them? When? Why is he breaking the news?
Yes.
There is clearly something wrong with the politics in that town, in that its government only serves a very small percentage of it’s population. They my still have a old-fashioned political machine.
This helps explain the troubles in Ferguson
Oh no, he’ll be embraced by the Tea Baggers and have a slot on the Fox channel soon.
You don’t know WTF you’re talking about.
So now it’s the job of Americans to simply comply and submit to their own destruction.
And what officers would those be, Mr. Mayor?
FERGUSON, Mo. (Bloomberg) – Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon will announce that St. Louis County law enforcement will be relieved of duty in Ferguson, which has been roiled by protests after the shooting death by police of an unarmed teenager, according to Rep. William Lacy Clay.
“The governor just called me, and he’s on his way to St. Louis now to announce he’s taking away St. Louis County police out of the
situation,” Clay, a Missouri Democrat, said in a telephone interview. He added that Nixon may ask the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation to step in.
Clay said that he has been urging U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to “take over the entire situation because we will not get justice for Michael Brown and his family and friends if the St. Louis County police and prosecutor have a say.”
So, Mayor, you can go support your heroes down at the klavern.
No, he’s right. To second-guess them, you have to first-guess them first, and that ain’t happenin’. That’s why we have this problem.
No wonder there is a police riot in Ferguson with nitwits like this allowing the cops to run the city.
In an effort to remind everybody how out of touch he is with the black community of Ferguson, the city’s mayor previously publicly lamented Al Sharpton’s presence and involvement as creating a “national spectacle”.
Would that be the ‘spectacle’ of Sharpton strongly advocating nonviolent protest at the behest of the Brown family?
Methinks the mayor would be a tad less indifferent had the police decided to go rogue and declare an unofficial Martial Law on one of Ferguson’s more affluent neighborhoods.
Smart stance in a place where police apparently shoot you for less reason than second-guessing them.
How did this man get elected? I hope that people in Ferguson are voting because if not this is what they get. This is a lesson of what happens to your town when the wrong people get in charge.
Ferguson Soon-To-Be-Ex Mayor Defends Police
There needs to be voter-registration coming in every time one of these community demonstrations spring up, when people are experiencing the feeling that there is power in numbers and power in acting as a community.
How can a community that’s two-thirds (2/3rds!) minority have a racist white mayor?
Amazing! I was wondering if this place was an unincorporated township as I have seen no one in any position of leadership. He is completely overpaid.
You lose! First reference to the Nazi’s. Out. Thanks for playing.
…wonder who wrote his script for him?
I’ve spent many years working sometimes very closely with state and local police and occasionally the FBI as part of my job. I’ve known many good and decent cops and also some cops who were either stupid or thuggish or both. Too many officers just become lazy, attached to sittin’ on their butts in their patrol car and playing with their gun rather than reaching out to the community. When they have good civilian and uniformed leadership that sees their work as part of a community rather than bad leadership that is all about military structure and military response, police can be very helpful. In this case it is readily apparent that there is bad civilian leadership and poor uniformed leadership. Rather shocking how ignorant and reactionary both the Mayor and Chief of Police in Ferguson are behaving.
