Personal responsibility poster child right here. Wasn’t that the major explanation of the Ferguson white people as to why only black people commit egregious crimes like walking along the roadway.
I am so enraged by this report I can hardly breath. How is this guy not being charged criminally for this???

Un-frickin-believable. This guy is the ultimate parasite, preying on the poor and disadvantaged. A special corner of hell awaits his miserable pale fat ass. This has to get significant play in the media. The so-called liberal media. Fat freakin’ chance. (SMH over the silence of the RW-beholden stenographers.) How far journalism has fallen in this country. Props to The Atlantic for that short piece. So much muck that needs raking in this country.

Race isn’t a distraction here. It is a huge part of the story. But I strongly suspect that the main reason the MSM and near-MSM keeps obsessively focusing on the more grotesque anecdote driven stories of racism is MSM editors can’t bear to let reporters cover the systemic class-based corruption that drove it.
As the report made clear in its opening pages, what really drove Ferguson’s descent into militarized institutional police racism and animosity is the deliberate, systemic abuse of the municipal criminal justice system to squeeze money out of the largely impoverished black majority so the white minority wouldn’t have to raise taxes on itself to meet tax revenue shortfalls.
They were literally making shit up–both on the street and in court–to impose debt peonage on the people they were supposed to be serving, using arrest warrants to extort payments and multiply fines while explicitly demanding that the police department increase fine and fee revenue by set percentages over the prior year.
This was happening in 21st Century America, and it took a young man getting killed for no good reason to make anyone recognize it and, even once exposed, the MSM won’t face the ugly, and terrifying, implications.
The Kochs and their BFFs are going to dump a billion dollars into this election cycle to turn all of America into the same kind of hellhole Ferguson became, except it’s going to be the entire bottom 95% getting sheared so their masters don’t see their taxes go up instead of just a specific demographic.
*Update–and yeah, this is why you’re reading about this in the Guardian rather than a U.S.-based news outlet. For the MSM, open, overt racism is all a “on the one hand, on the other hand, this controversy isn’t going away anytime soon” view from nowhere story, unless the alternative is to acknowledge the existence of neo-feudal class exploitation, at which point its all “ooooh, lookit the racist beat cops!”
*2d. Update It bothers me a bit when I make a substantive change after people have upvoted, because this, but I had to add “class based” to the second sentence, so it clearly made the point I thought I was already making.
3d. Read the WaPo story Carlos links to below. Just do it. I don’t know how it slipped through the filters. It’s like someone there realized they were a newspaper again. Or, possibly, they just read it as a gripping story about isolated Bumfuck, Missouri hickdom way outside their subscription area and didn’t recognize the larger implications.

Yep. That looks about right. Interesting that his website even says he’s a judge and a prosecutor, as well as being a defense attorney. No wonder unemployment is so high in the Ferguson area, with guys like this taking all the jobs.

Fact: Ferguson is exactly what the GOP/Teatrolls hope they can arrange for the entire country in the future despite demographic shifts taking away white majority…the white minority in power over the majority comprised of all the browns, and maintaining it by whatever means necessary.

He is serving as a prosecutor in a couple of Missouri municipalities and as judge in Ferguson and one other town. It is somewhat unusual, but not unheard of, in suburban Missouri. Usually you will find a lawyer acting as prosecutor in several suburban jurisdictions or serving as municipal judge in several suburban jurisdictions. Only rarely do they mix and match. You need to understand that municipal courts can only handle municipal ordinance violations. Everybody is entitled to an appeal to the Circuit Court if they choose. They are required to file an appeal bond which means most people simply pay the fine and move on.
Something that should not be overlooked in this case is that Ferguson is not alone in running a traffic fine collection racket. It is not uncommon in jurisdictions where fees are retained by the local municipality. This is true regardless of the racial composition of the citizens. You want to stop what is going on in Ferguson, require that all traffic fines go to a common pot to be divided by all of the municipalities in the state on a prorated basis.
