They could have given them a $10M contract and nobody would have noticed. But being Republicans, they have to overreach, and thus jeopardize the whole thing. They can’t even do this kind of shady stuff right.

This is grotesque. As if Puerto Rican’s haven’t suffered enough, now they’re forced to work with a company clearly without the experience or expertise necessary to do the job. Note that this wouldn’t have happened to folks living in Texas or Florida.

About the only thing this energy company can probably do is throw batteries at people.

Don’t we all write contracts like that?

Not only do I want to read this contract, I long to know whose palms got greased, and with how much during its award process. And yes, promising political favors is equivalent to greasing someone’s palm.

You think not?

Everyone involved in this should be thrown in prison. This is corruption of the worst kind.

FEMA’s “significant concerns”?. Yes, that the $300 million wasn’t enough.

Putin is missing out on a PR bonanza. Trump has mucked this up so badly Pootie could swoop in and help rebuild the island. It wouldn’t be illegal, and the Governor would be hard pressed to refuse help. Putin could double down and release a statement saying it was his idea, and Donnie DID NOT think of it or invite him.

Ah, a person can dream…

Surely that clause is illegal and unenforceable in a court of law, right?

Why would anyone run for public office if they couldn’t give our tax dollars to their friends?

Why not? During Katrina Germany sent huge pumps to New Orleans, they were the only ones that were effective. Other countries frequently have better technology and are more agile in emergencies. PR should ‘beg’ Putin for help, they are not getting it from Trump.

I am starting to feel sympathy for Whitefish Energy. If say KBR, Former subsidiary of Halliburton and notorious looter of the of Iraq reconstruction funds, had done the exact same thing, bribed the same officials, charged the same outrageous rates, played grab ass with the same Interior Secretary, behaved like total assholes with critics, rates nobody would be saying anything. Apparently there is a hierarchy in looters, and Whitefish seem to have hit the glass ceiling of thievery.

A partner at Whitefish was also a major Republican donor. He gave a total of $74,000 to various Trump groups and another $30,700 to the Republican National Committee, the Daily Beast reported.

$104,770 in, $300,000,000 out.

Bread upon the waters.

At least Louis came up on the right side at last. You can’t say the same for the crooks who ran this giveaway.

Not only that the contract specifically forbids any auditing associated with it, the contract guarantees payment with no respect to completion or timing thereof. Unconscionable, and likely unenforcible.

Whose name is on the execution copy?

The other thing to watch for is that FEMA has a binder or two of what to do in PR if the worst case scenario were to happen. FEMA is not releasing what’s in that binder(s), or even if Brock Long consulted them.

@tena I knew that there had to be some emergency action binder for Puerto Rico, and I bet that there is one for every state and territory in the US. I’d love to see what my state’s looks like and then use it to question my governor. And the way things are going I hope that Alaska and Hawaii ask to look at there’s.
