Discussion: FEMA Chief Brock Long Spent $151,000 Of Taxpayer's Money On Unofficial Travel

The time remaining to register people to vote is running out. To see your state’s voter registration deadlines look here:

Download and print copies of this Federal Voter Registration form, valid in all 50 states and US Territories. If you’re a US Citizen you can help any other US Citizen register to vote. Instructions are on the form:

https://vote.gov/files/federal-voter-registration_1-25-16_english.pdf

This site, https://www.aauw.org/resource/organize-a-voter-registration-drive/, has a how-to on organizing a voter registration drive or just sitting outside Wal Mart with a folding chair and a card table. But hurry- time IS running out!

Register people to vote. Get to the polls.

Remember, the House writes the checks for our government and a Congress with a conscience and a spine can literally ‘House-break’ Trump and his piddling enablers!

VOTE!

gee wonder what would happen if a regular federal employee did that … could be hit with Felony theft charges ? or some variation of embezzlement action - and definitely fired … maybe jailed until bond posted

Looks like Repubs really like family vacations in Hawaii, as long as it is being paid for by taxpayers or campaign contributors.

… and wasn’t Brock Long supposed to actually be a “professional” with genuine experience in the disaster / crisis management field - supposed to be a rarity in this administration in that he actually had some background in the area for which he would be responsible … yet here he is - stupidly siphoning out of the public well … so full of himself and saturated with a self-important sense of privilege and entitlement - another ass-hole who thinks that the department that they run is their own personal fiefdom - and its resources are a bequest from King Donald to use & abuse any way they wish… note - possibly the worst ones are the ones who think that they are in the clear simply because they mixed in a smidgen of “official business” while devoting Taxpayer money to their family vacation.

Remember how supportive and OK they were with Obama’s trips to Hawaii?

What’s still unclear to me is whether they’re going after him because he’s corrupt, or they’re just using the corruption because they have other disagreements with him. This administration has certainly turned a blind eye to corruption by more favored officials until it absolutely had to look. (And that salary number makes me wonder what those staffers would have been doing if they hadn’t been driving. )

Hawaii is the real America.
The heartland…of the Central Pacific.
Where else would you have a faithful R vacation?

Gee who would have thought that taking a job away from Hickory, N.C. would incur travel expenses if your family stays in N.C.?

Aw, shucks folks. Compared to Scott Pruitt and Ryan (Whitefish Energy Are My Boys, Fist Bump) Zinke, this Good Ole North Carolina Boy is a mere Piker. The Atheist Integration Carpetbaggers want to destroy his life…and his family’s life…it is so * :sob: unfair*

And he was a Virgin, all through High School. And for an unspecified number of years thereafter. Cuz he was saving himself for Holy Matrimony. And went to Church, at Little Flower, every Sunday. And has always lived his life, by The Creed, “Men for Others.”

“During his frequent trips from Washington, D.C. to North Carolina and back, Long also had an aide accompany him and used taxpayer funds to put the staffer up in a hotel while he spent time with family.”

It is well known among my sister crows that I have small knowledge of the interweb - but even I know that if you need staff work done while you are spending the weekend with your family you can open the comp-UT-or or laptop, and send him//her a message regarding the work you want done - and get a response, even though they are not in the same city.
I give this advice freely to all govt. depts. that they may reduce their budget.
Because I don’t think they’ve thought of it, given all the officials of departments who travel with large staffs. you’re welcome america

Looks like Brock might be up one of those NC fecal soup rivers without a paddle.

Nielsen’s spokesperson told the WSJ last week that Long would repay the government “as appropriate,” but when contacted on Tuesday, a spokesperson didn’t specify how much would be repaid.

The key is “as appropriate” - Brock Long still doesn’t think he did anything wrong.

Meanwhile, the rank-and-file employees will be given more training on travel policies and left to wonder if there’s going to be a crackdown on every minor glitch and typo on their their travel paperwork in order to show the world just how honest FEMA has become.

Oh no, restitution isn’t going to cut it. This is felony theft from the US Government AND an attempt to cover up the crime.

I don’t think the FBI has any choice but to bring charges.

WTF.
