Anyone remember Republicans using the “blue slip” courtesy to block Obama’ s judicial appointments? Then getting rid of it when Trump became President?
Jones is a dino. That said, that dems expect that t*, who has no respect for political decorum would consult with two people who have no power to block a fly, laughable
Pull it over to the left a bit while you’re at it.
I thought Grassley had already ended that program for Democratic senators.
Indeed, she was a fine person and excellent member of congress, and I don’t think anyone could or should ever forget her. Not from California, though.
Not many pepole on this site, it seems. Question why Dems are so useless and weak, invariably it’s, “they’re in the minority, we can’t expect them to do anything. All they can do is sit silently or help the Republicans to confirm 15 reactionary judges by unanimous consent.” Pathetic.
Also recall that Dems let Blue slips stand even after having to go nuclear on lower court nominations because Republicans were filibustering EVERY SINGLE ONE. In other words, the Dems, WHEN THEY WERE IN THE MAJORITY allowed the Republicans to continue to block judges even after they damn well knew there was not an ounce of good faith in the entire Republican Party. Yet the majority on this comment board continues to coddle useless Dem politicians. Don’t defend the indefensible, call their offices and tell them how angry you are with their cowardice! Weak base, weak politicians. Get your head out of the sand.
Right, someone better get Feinstein her smelling salts. Time for a new generation of leadership. She has given Republicans cover and supported many anti-progressive policies over her much too long career. She should have lost her seat in the primary. Feinstein was absolutely awful questioning Kavanaugh. Not one question about sexual assault in the first hearing, even though she knew about Blasey Ford’s allegations (honestly, she probably forgot, doesn’t seem so sharp these days), oh, and she apologized to Kav for protestors that are rightfully scared to death to lose their reproductive rights. Feinstein needs to retire. So does Lahey, he looks like he’s about to pass out after he speaks a single sentence.
Actually, the base can call their “representatives” in Congress and express their anger at how meek and weak they are acting. Coddling Dem politicians and defending every single pathetic action is counterproductive.
typical response from the democratic party
waaah we wuz tricked
those cheathers
Well I wouldn’t say it’s a huge ‘majority’ of the people here. But there are a few power users who viciously defend the constant weakness and failures of the Dems, derails any conversation of change and personally attacks anyone they deem ‘too leftist’. But yea, that clique within the Dem party is actively holding it back and turning off millennials by opposing both younger leadership and more progressive policies they seem to want. But they don’t care as long as the party stays old and centrist.
I think your message would be more popular on Daily Kos. Don’t forget to donate!
In theory this is what we should do. But in real life it doesn’t work that way. I write to mine and I often get responses to something I didn’t write
As to meek and weak, that’s a matter of perception.; It’s hard to fight and be aggressive when the Democrats are in the minority and the tools to fight have been stripped from them for the time being.
You’d rather endangered Dems stick around for a meaningless vote rather than campaign to save their seats in the last weeks before an election?
Your experience with responses from your reps is unfortunate. When I worked for a Senator we always responded on point and respectfully.
The responses when I got them were timely and respectful, but occasionally not on the topic I addressed. I don’t find fault in the reps themselves, I see it as the fault of staffers, and you might have been one, who have millions of pieces of correspondence to respond to and are working frantically to get it done
Whatever responses you may have received, I assure you that the assistants (having been one) for your Reps and Senators (at least Dems) keep tally of the communications and it does influence their votes. So expressing your disappointment/anger in the actions of a Dem politician does make a difference. Defending on the Internet their inaction, or worse, their tacit support of Republican goals, well, that is counterproductive and encourages perpetuation of the unacceptable staus quo.
I live in CA where I’m represented by three women. I assume comments eventually get through to them, and sometime I pick up the phone and talk with someone who says she’ll pass it on. I also write to my new female mayor, assume she reads them, but also get no answers, and I write to my new District Supervisor (aka Councilman). I imagine all of them are overwhelmed with mail, calls and messages since our population just keeps exploding.
That’s why CA needs more reps and Senators. Obviously the population growth was not factored in when they made nearly the entire west coast one state. Also why we are being ruled by a minority of rural brainwashed dumb$$e$ Who remain in their economically distraught states while their children move to blue states for opportunities. Oh, yeah, and our taxes pay for their subsidies and welfare while they sit in their lazy boys and dial up the FOX hate and rail against “socialism”. We should’ve let the south go back in the mid 1800s. We’re paying for it — literally and figuratively — now.
Is this what critical mass looks like, when we don’t have enough resources to distribute to the existing population? I don’t believe in disunion, too many died and fought to keep the states together, but we have a tremendous problem with the unwashed, uninformed southern population which is informed by Fox alone and vote against their own interests
So what are your thoughts on a solution? I don’t have any silver bullets myself, but my understanding is that DC can be made a State by a simple vote of Congress and signature of the President. Won’t hapoen until we get a Dem pres, house and senate of course, but a good start.
