I think I read about this yesterday or this morning. Its all becoming one big blur.
A watchdog group, and frustrated tourists, questioned why a shutdown that had furloughed hundreds of thousands of workers and crippled many agencies was exempting a site within the Trump family’s business empire.
Ummm…I think we all know the answer to that question. It doesn’t take an Einstein to figure this one out.
All along the clock tower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants, too
Great timing, this story.
For us.
CREW is also involved in a federal lawsuit targeting the Trump hotel that could become the first test of whether presidents are restricted by the U.S. Constitution’s emoluments provision, which bans gifts from foreign and U.S. state governments to federal officials.
The idea that the authors of the Constitution would allow the chief executive to accept foreign bribes while prohibiting all other officials from doing the same is haha nutso bonkers.
Okay, you SCOTUS strict constructionists; let’s hear your reading of the plain meaning of the original text on this one.
We can’t expect the Con man der in Chief to for-go profits in these trying times …
Can we ?? …
I had posted the story in the Hive yesterday. Annoying as all HELL, huh?
“We’re open!” one National Park Service ranger declared…
“And don’t forget to visit our Gift Shop, for an adorable, little souvenir bone saw!”
Yes. We do. Stinks to high heaven. It’s so outrageous another thought occurs to me.
Might be that GSA is trolling Trump, punishing him for the shutdown, knowing AP would pick it up to raise public disgust with these low-lifes.
GSA had to go to a LOT of trouble to open that site. It’s either grifting or trolling.
This actually could be good news, is a back-assward sort of way. I say that because the criminal activity inside the WH, and this entire administration, is becoming quite obvious in real-time, and impossible to hide. The DOJ cannot ignore this grift. More importantly, the GOP and Mitch McConnell cannot ignore this grift. This could bring down the POtuS’s approval rating big-time.
Let me guess: No one drowned. There was no trash scattered across the grounds. No one took a dump either on a staircase or in a hallway.
Must be nice.
This is just another unbelievable coincidence. (That list is getting rather long.)
If Trump is behind this, it’s incredibly stupid. I doubt a single Saudi or Emirati is forking over tens of thousands of dollars because of a clock tower.
Indictment total is 118 to 2, if you’re keeping score at home.
The juxtaposition of an insignificant clock tower being kept open to benefit the sitting President’s personal finances breaking the same day he says he doesn’t care federal workers aren’t getting paid because they’re mostly Dems is delicious. At this rate, he’ll be lucky if Pelosi agrees to a painted white line at the Border.
I’m wondering why that pic didn’t include GHWB. Pretty sure there was scandal or two in that administration leading to indictments and conviction. I know he pardoned several over Iran Contra. He tended to pardon people before they had to do any time too. His Treasury Secretary, Catalina Vasquez Villalpando, was convicted of obstruction of justice and tax evasion and was sent to prison. The only Treasury Sec. in our history to have done so.
… and apparently - if they had not found this clever work-around - there would always be the option of Trump just unilaterally edicting that the funds be provided because - “National Emergency”
actually just waiting for Trump to start mucking around with exploration of discretionary powers by curtailing certain services that he does not like - or that will screw groups that he does not like - and - issuing orders to provide funds for other specific functions that Trump deems to be urgent needs of a National Emergency nature .
Qu’ils mangent de la brioche! It would be better in Russian…not sure of the translation…
For a man whose venality has a sort of epic grandeur, Trump sure can be petty.
