More ginger bashing. Classy.

Do you really think the ATF can’t tell the difference between the forensic properties of fucking Miracle Grow and pure ammonium nitrate? Seriously? Some lab somewhere I’m sure can put that material under a microscope or maybe in an autoclave, or some such shit and determine its purity. In fact, I believe I remember that the ammonium nitrate Timothy McVeigh got his grubby little hands on had a chemical signature that could even be traced to a particular supplier.

This is from the ATF website on explosive tracing:

Just one more reason we need a functioning ATF in this country, no matter what the NRA assholes want to block by way of Republican fuckwads in Congress.

Context is important. This was a HOTEL room. It had a PILE of guns and ammo in it. The man was a FELON and the member of a radicalized right wing MILITIA. This is TEXAS and he is an ANGRY WHITE BIGOT. Are you telling me you’re skeptical as to the character, amount and intended use of the ammonium nitrate that was found in such context? That the “box containing the chemical” was just fertilizer for his hotel ferns?

I think that’s mostly the reason driving white supremacists: they have nothing to brag about, but being born melanin-challenged.

In any case, its like the difference between Sudafed crank and the type of Breaking Bad fictional blue meth. Like the DEA, the ATF has labs to be able to tell them the difference.

It was an ammo box full of ammonium nitrate mixed with fuel. They’re pretty sure he wasn’t going to sprinkle it on his tomatoes.
Then there were the “thousands of rounds of ammunition.”
For target practice, probably.
No reason at all to think these upstanding gentlemen were up to no good, even if this guy was a convicted felon illegally in posession of weapons.

He always takes his ferns with him when he’s on a mission to protect the border.

I’m about 90% sure that there isn’t a material difference between the ammonium nitrate used as a fertilizer and the ammonium nitrate used in ANFO bombs. In fact, the reason why McVeigh used an ANFO bomb is because the materials were so easy to come by. One stop at the farm store, one stop at the gas station.

That said, while it’s certainly possible that this guy picked up some fertlizer for his backyard and just had it as his hotel room in the short term, the greater context does make that questionable.

And I guess every farmer keep some in his hotel room, for the wheat crop.
