This is the 2nd Big Fucking Deal thing to happen today below the public’s awareness due to the ACA repeal attempt blotting out the sun.

Not a lawyer, but the text I saw in the lease was black and white about no public office holder being able to hold the lease. How did they see their way around that? This is a big deal as it goes directly to conflict of interest of the US President.

Also in other news… the Senate just voted to overturn broadband privacy rules. This is another big big deal. It is a blindingly crony capitalism move and only hurts the public.

Bad day and the vote on ACA repeal hasn’t even been taken yet.

Was the decision made by a career civil servant, or a political apointee?

Today’s scheduled ACA repeal plan vote is probably the reason why this and the broadband privacy rules measures dropped today. Everyone is paying attention to the ACA repeal and these other important but less compelling things will slip under the radar.

Here is the letter. It says the relevant internal operating agreements were revised to prevent any distributions for his benefit, or any accumulation of income for future distribution for his benefit.

Looks like they may have done what was requested of them on paper … which has nothing to do with what the paper is actually worth.

agreed

Can this decision be appealed?

But he DOES benefit from this hotel. The hotel bears his name and the money that comes in from guest bookings do benefit him and his family. Even if all the money went to some sort of “trust” for Rump kids, he still benefits. Not indirectly, directly.

It’s nice to be KING…this is kind of like the Fox guarding the hen house, wouldn’t you say?

I made it to page 7/166 and stopped.

Now I’m not an attorney but to say on page 7 in section C & 14:

Despite this seemingly broad language, as noted in Section II below, Tenant has revised its internal operating agreement to prevent distributions to DJT Holdings LLC or any other entity in which President Trump has a direct, indirect or beneficial interest"

seems like a real stretch.

Certainly, if Republicans firmly believe that Planned Parenthood actually does commingle federal funds with monies that provide abortion then they should also have real issues with that section.

Any thoughts from the lawyers among us? @alliebean?

Well…maybe he can use the money to pay for his ‘kids’ secret service protection.

I absolutely knew this would happen. Our country is no longer a nation of laws, it’s an ad-hoc collection of ne’er-do-wells who decide, case by case, what laws should be enforced and which to ignore. Mark these outraged words: if this crystal clear, undeniable conflict is simply ruled not to be a conflict, get ready for the flood of other such abdications of duty to enforce the clear letter of the law. Sorry to pour fuel on this fire, but remember what Congress did when the major TelCos and ISPs were caught red-handed spying on Americans communications; and providing those communications to BushCo? Congress simply changed the law and made it retroactive so that no corporate criminals were held accountable. Laws are now just a suggestion, folks. Welcome to our Brave New World.

We all know we’re monetized when we use “free” services like FB, Twitter, the Google, etc.

But now we’ll be paying for privilege of being monetized by our ISPs.

“The federal government agency that owns the building housing President Donald Trump’s Washington, D.C. hotel has determined that it does not violate the terms of its lease… which states that an elected official may not be involved with or benefit from the agreement.”

I want names, now!

Either the agency has ruled that Trump wasn’t elected, or it’s corrupt.

It’s a simple “either/or”.

Trump benefits in countless ways, even if not directly: Why else does he hold the lease?

Real people with names and careers need to be held accountable. No running; no hiding.

Torches. And. Pitchforks.
