Discussion: Federal Judge Quotes Frank Underwood In An Actual Ruling

Discussion for article #227597

“There’s no better way to overpower a trickle of doubt than with a flood of naked truth.”

And if there is a flood of doubt because of deregulation of campaign finance?

So i could put up a billboard that says U.S. District Court Judge Timothy S. Black ruled that eating babies is legal?

But whose naked truth, when facts are ignored and prejudice rules?

Exactly. More often than not, the people telling the truth don’t have the money to flood the media with that truth. Lies financed by big money are what flood the media, and the truth gets drowned in them.

So true and so pathetic

And people who are predisposed to believe something will believe it even in the face of equally loud truth. If you put a true billboard across the street from a false one, people will probably believe the one that most accurately reflects their own political position. I hope that many of these uncritical individuals are beyond persuasion, and that independent voters subject to having their minds changed will look a little harder for the truth.

So a Federal Judge just said he cannot determine what a Lie is?
MAYBE HE SHOULD RETIRE THEN

Might as well quote Putin or Assad on the truth. At least they are real liars.

Or as Verbal Kint might have said, “There’s no better way to overpower a trickle of truth than with a flood of naked lies.”

Or was it Keyser Sose who said that? I get those two guys mixed up. Maybe it was a Koch.

We are dumber because a Judge quotes a character in a TV show? What if he quoted a epically stupid real live politician (Lord knows there are plenty). Would that mean the rest of us are getting dumber?

I heard this guy impregnated his daughter when she was 13 and forced her to have an abortion . . . TWICE. Also that he was caught molesting both his son and his grandson. And that his second wife is also his niece.

What a creep.

I tend to agree with his ideas regarding which viewpoint will prevail. However, he seems content to ignore the fact that lies funded with Big Money will never be overtaken by truths spoken quietly. The truth, without proper distribution, remains the truth…but only to a few.

Apparently the judge did not take into account that it costs money to counter lies – a lot of money.

Once the lie has been told and then told again and again and again it becomes “CW” in the viewing, reading and/or listening audience members’ minds. The damage has been done.

Most Americans are either too busy to look up the facts, too disinterested to be bothered, and/or too closed minded to accept anything that does not comport with their political ideology.

Discernment and skepticism are lost on those with a predisposed mindset. Taking people at face value is a common fault. But blind acceptance, turning a blind eye when that person’s actions & deeds do not align or match his/her words, is quite another.

If not for the extreme far right wing propaganda and lies coursing through the airwaves, streaming through TVs and radios into homes, living rooms, cars, most everyone would be living in reality, the real world. But as is, money shapes reality.

So, when lies become truth, the “truth” becomes whatever the moneyed interests say it is. The judge would be wise to take that into consideration.

Bunk. I have a computer full of emails from Reich-wing pantloads that disprove that. As soon as you respond (and I do - to everyone of them) they just double down blame that ‘libural’ media, or get an “Oh, yeah? Well…something-something-something”.

Nice soundbite for the easily led, though.
