Discussion: Fed Hikes Interest Rate For Fourth Time This Year

Powell is #5 in the latest “Enemy of the People” power rankings, but he’s going to have to do a lot better if he wants to make it to the championship game.

Trump gave him his orders, and the bastard went and do whatever he wanted… you cannot get reliable help these days.

After he finishes his initial tantrum, Tangerine Tariff Man will be excited that he can now blame Angry Democrat Powell for tanking the economy.

Think of how through the roof about this as well as almost everything Donald has done, republicans would be if Obama did it.

The fact that Fox is talking about it makes me think that they believe things are going to blow up with Donald and so they are slowing starting to say things against Donald’s stupid shit so when it comes out their viewers will be ok with them agreeing that Donald has to go.

If Trump hadn’t opened his yap, the Fed may have held off the hike given the December swoon in stock prices. But if it was a close, 50/50, type of a decision, I could see the Fed opting to hike rates in order to assert its power and independence over the Vulgar Talking Yam (h/t Charlie Pierce). Similar to Judge Sullivan smacking Flynn and his attorneys for the BS entrapment trial balloon that they floated pre-sentencing.

Interesting proposal if a bit drawn out. Tip, i watch a lot of videos with the speed turned up. The basic gist is ICE(Internal combustion engine) vehicles will soon be replaced by electric and oil industry will implode as well as be the end for any car company that doesn’t make EVs.
A really interesting thing they point out is that the US in 2016 realized there was going to be a glut so they said sell off the big oil reserves we normally held in case of emergency and that’s probably an additional reason oil and gas prices are so low now! Low prices that Donald is claiming his policies helped.

Frankly, the list and his ratings are meaningless. The criminal in the WH made the Fed and interest rates a political issue, when every other president with the exception of H.W. refused to go there because it is dangerous for the economy to politize it.
Powell was smart and courageous to stay the course and do what is right for the economy.

That’s a dangerous idea you state. Volker was right to warn us.

Except Powell is a not a Democrat. Thank god. Think how they would react if the criminal in the WH hadn’t refused to reappoint Janet Yellen. Taking advice from his sexist SOT.

Interesting that the Fed proceeded today with the rate hike. The recent volatility has more to do with Trump himself than anything else, hopefully any minutes wording will calm the markets down, but that doesn’t come out until the next meeting.
This is kind of a mess, Trump’s mess.

This is just about the last time the Fed will try to stave off the incoming crash, which is now happening. This is a desperation move. After this futile effort, the Fed is now irrelevant. If you don’t understand what they are trying to do, and what has already begun to collapse, read this excellent article on ZeroHedge, a great website for breaking economic news and in-depth reporting:
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-12-19/next-financial-crisis-here-pt-2.

And read how the fed is crashing the housing market meanwhile, which is not quite the $size of the college loan debt bubble, but the 2 together beginning to burst means this incoming crash will be far worse than 2008:
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-12-19/housing-crunch.

The Fed has been doing great work since 1988 until Trump eff’d with it. Republicans don’t understand economics.

Not familiar with the author but am always suspicious with hyperbole in economy discussions.
