Make Republicans Afraid Again
I honestly can’t think of a single issue where Republicans have sided with regular hard working Americans since Trump has taken control.
They are on the wrong side of economic and social issues facing America; be it tax reform, healthcare, climate change, same sex marriage, immigration, or even judicial appointments. Not to even discuss their attempt to shut down the Russian conspiracy that got Trump elected.
I certainly hope they will reap what they’ve sown.
Amidst growing signs of a potentially huge Democratic wave in the 2018 midterm elections, a raft of key Republican would-be candidates are deciding to stay onshore rather than risk drowning in its undertow.
The rip-tide of unusual, unseasonably strong currents, dragging their hopes out past the breaks, threatens to swamp the tiny orange life-boat they cling to.
(passes Conch shell)
Republicans are going to hit hard on the tax cuts, using examples like Walmart’s raising wages for new hires to claim that the benefits are trickling down to ordinary workers. We are going to have to be ready with facts, figures and cogent analysis of the real impact of Trumpism on the economy.
They have proved over and over again
They don’t want to govern
They can’t govern.
In many cases it was the gerrymander keeping them on life support where even with a 60 to40 plurality in votes Dems just break even.
Those days are gone Republicans
Please keep blindly supporting President Shithole
Why does it never occur to a politician—a person who presumptively wants to keep their job–to actually represent the wishes of their constituency?
I’m afraid to hope.
Republicans would be wise to get behind immigration reform now. They would also be smart if they handled the government funding crisis they have been stalling weeks at a time.
I, for one, cannot wait to see them flailing and fleeing when the moron wants to campaign with them. He lives for his rallies …
The wave is a function of math, not hope. If the Dem share of the white vote is like 2017 (and it will be higher because a lot of the elections in 2017 were in deep red/purple areas) and Dems continue to win the indie vote and have high energy among registered Dems, you can plug those #s into every district and see what the results will be. Dems will win more seats in 2018 than they did in 2006 b/c gerrymandering has lowered the GOP advantage in safe seats because they distributed some of that vote across other districts to gain an advantage.
My what a difference a Year of Trump makes. Time for the DCCC to get up off its lazy butt and throw some money to races it should have won last time around. Economic opportunity remains the big issue in poorer districts. Often the dominant activities are farming, extractive industries, or a military base. There isn’t a major university, a Silicon Valley, or a film industry. I also think all blue states impacted by the Tax Heist should unseat GOP reps that supported it simply on the basis of malfeasance for the SALT language and the $700 billion windfall to foreign investors, who apparently rate higher than their constituents.
We need to tie a great big orange sinker to every Republican Candidate, even the ones running for dog catcher, and see if they can stay above water with that attached.
Interesting point about gerrymandering. It’s great for amassing power during business-as-usual, but in wave elections it can hurt you. Although that might not be true for the newest Big Data forms of gerrymandering. You might be able to put your most tribal voters in the safe districts and resist most waves…
If the democrats take the majority in one or both houses of congress, it will be interesting to see how far the executive branch goes in refusing to comply with congressional oversight. They have (for the time being) a get-out-of-jail-free card with the DoJ, but that might not last.
Like rats fleeing a sinking ship.
Since Trump has taken control? More like since the day after Teddy Roosevelt left office! And yet, absent a massive economic crash, it doesn’t seem to cost them anything at the ballot box. They spent the 50+ years since Goldwater crashed and burned conditioning people to believe that Democrats are the baby killing, terrorist-loving, pot smoking hippies who will take your hard-earned money and give it to lazy, mooching others. All they now know is that they would rather vote for Satan himself, as long has he has an R after his name, then to ever vote for a Democrat. Fortunately Dick Cheney isn’t running in 2018…
I would probably cry huge tears of joy if Beto won. It would give me some hope for my state.
OH but they $$$$$$$$$ DO
Best government money can buy
And yet the thing about rats is that if you see one there are at least a hundred more that you don’t see…
As long as Beto wins, I’m calling 2018 a victory.
