Discussion: Fear Of Trade War Increases As Trump Barrels Ahead With Tariffs On EU

Like a chimp in an air-traffic control tower, happily pressing buttons it can’t possibly comprehend the purpose or effects of.

Just another baffling, nonsensical move from the tweetmeister. Somewhere, deep in the blood-red south, this is playing as sticking it to those uppity ferners. For most of us though, this is just more of a red-haired chimp pounding on a Smith-Corona.

When inflation goes through the roof, and unemployment skyrockets, I hope the Trumpsters can take comfort in the fact that liberals really, really didn’t want a trade war. It makes the left unhappy, so everything else is great…right? (And we can look forward to the inevitable “Put pressures on the Democrat party to change their trade policy…” campaign rallies.)

This Orange Moron in the White House is really trying hard to fuck up everything with our allies and make Americans pay unnecessary prices on everything here at home for his incessant nonsense about trade. He doesn’t bother to understand the first thing about how global trade works at all, which is frightening. The stooges he has going along with him or whispering in his ear haven’t a clue either. Meanwhile, rich people will have no problem buying what they need. The rest of us will get royally screwed.

the EU has threatened to impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. orange juice, peanut butter and other goods in return

And where do many of these agricultural products come from? From areas -even in blue states- that voted for Trump. We’ll see if buyer’s remorse is really a thing with his die-hard base.

In the end, when tRump tanks the economy he won’t take responsibility for any of these trade policies. We’ve already seen how he deals with policies that he decides on unilaterally that have very unpopular effects. He either denies it’s his policy and blames the Dems for it, or pretends its not happening and things are just fine with everyone else in the “fake media” just lying about him.

One thing you can be sure of…this moron never takes responsibility for anything and is constitutionally allergic to being held accountable. At the very least, Wilbur Ross will get the blame, and who really gives a shit about Ross? The guy looks like a walking dead man already.

U.S. and European officials held last-ditch talks in Paris on Thursday to try to avert a deal …

More rigorous editing …

I’m hoping a prosecutor does … Bank of Cyprus … Russian laundromat.

My guess is Trump is working to create a situation where bribery of Trump results in no tariffs.

We don’t have to wait and see the effects. Gas prices are already back over $3. 30 year mortgage rates are already up 50% or more.

Great news for banksters and oilman. Sucks to need a new work truck.

EU, here is how you do it.

Figure out which states were the biggest Trump supporters, figure out what the major products of those states are, slap tariffs on those products. Squeeze the fuck out of their economies in the knowledge that Trump and his band of jackholes know virtually nothing about your country and so couldn’t target your supporters in the same way.

Not Trump, apparently. Trump claims that Ross is “past his prime” and “no longer a killer.” Ross may have a few days left in Commerce.

What are the tariffs and plans for Russian goods?

Russia is our #1 adversary and they basically committed an act of war via Trump and the 2016 election. If any country should be under a travel and trade ban with the US it should be Russia!

Yes, " barrels ahead" a perfectly apt description for the ham handed approach the Don takes on any issue or occasion, finesse and reason are foreign concepts to him.

AP “Objectivity” strikes again:

Ross criticized the EU for its tough negotiating position. But German
Economy Minister Peter Altmaier insisted the Europeans were ready to
negotiate special trade arrangements, notably for liquefied natural gas
and industrial goods, including cars.

“What will you give me not to burn down both our houses?”
“I’ll give you a token payment, but you should remember you’re burning down your own house too.”
“Your negotiating position is too inflexible.”

Trump is like the worst poker player in the world, who claims every single garbage hand of his is the greatest hand in history, just amazing, you wouldn’t believe it, he’s gonna win, sick of all this winning, word salad vomit etc. And all the rest of the players see right through the terrible bluff, raise, and he folds. Trump has folded and will continue to fold every single time he tries this tariff nonsense. No tariffs on this side, but everyone knows the US is an unstable, erratic, and stupid trade partner.

The trade war has already begun though, even without the tariffs becoming permanent. China for instance has stopped buying American soybeans, which will kick Iowa pretty badly for its Trump support.

And here we go:

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration announced on Thursday that it would impose tariffs on metals imported from its closest allies, a measure that could provoke retaliation against American businesses.

A 25 percent tariff on steel and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum from the European Union, Canada and Mexico, which supply nearly half of America’s imported metal, will go into effect at midnight Thursday, Wilbur Ross, the commerce secretary, said on a call with reporters.

We talked to a Trump voter in Ohio a few weeks ago who owns a company that supplies tool steel blocks to its customers. He told us that Trump would never go through with his threat to impose tariffs.

Wrong again.
