If the resistance within the WH is as big as was suggested in the NYT op-ed, i’d expect to see a number of people try to talk t rumpp out of getting rid of him. Canning Mattis has the very real potential of setting off a much bigger chain reaction within the WH that Congress simply cannot ignore. Everything that has come out from Woodward, Omarosa, and all of the other “leaks” with regard to how badly t rumpp is losing his grip on reality are being proven true. This trajectory cannot be allowed to continue.
Something is not making sense, there are pieces of this puzzle that haven’t yet come to light, and I don’t mean in terms of identity. Why would all the sources that Woodward spoke with unburden themselves so fully, not attempting to conceal their identity, knowing full well they’d have to deal with their vengeful boss at some point? RE the Times op-ed, same thing, (or at least similar, since the writer’s identity will no doubt eventually be revealed) and additionally, what is the actual point of making it clear to Trump that his staff is totally compromised from his POV? For that matter, what is the point of telling the public about this? Were all these people grousing impotently? Working to enhance the blue wave? Helping us to prepare for a 25th Amendment solution?
How attractive is it to be Sec.of Defence ?
Would Lindsey Graham see it as a step up ? Would it put his seat in the senate in play, if he did ?
Sure they can, they’ve been doing it for nearly 20 months.

Some days you just gotta vent at someone. I’ll bet Woodward (who, as I understand it, met with the folks off-site) chose some cosy little place, plied them with a couple of drinks, passed on vague hints of rumors (both flattering and not), which was enough to ease them into a sense of safety and outrage.
(Or maybe he hypnotised them?? Slipped 'em some “truth serum”?? Perhaps it was just his soothing voice.)
I’m beginning to think there is an intentional strategy to drive Spankee insane, leak by leak, insult by insult. Mikey might even be behind it because it’ll be his only chance to sit in the big chair.
The identity of the sources isn’t clear. For the most part (except for people who have left like Cohn), they’re staffers who for example heard Mattis or Kelly say things, not the principals themselves.
One thing I think that’s underrated is how much people like the op-ed writer are helping to keep Trump in office. By tamping down the craziness that leaks into the outside world, they’re giving Congressional Republicans the excuse they need to keep supporting him. If he’s fully unleashed and starts doing real damage, they won’t be able to say it’s just liberals attacking him for implementing their agenda. Maybe they’ll keep supporting him anyway, but I would be that at some point it becomes unsustainable. It’s a lot easier to support criminals when they’re doing what you want, no so much when they’re burning your own house down.
Graham is smart.
