Discussion: FCC Votes To Repeal Obama-Era Net Neutrality Regulations

I really don’t like play “what might have been,” but - think if we could have had Al Gore and then Obama. Think of the environmental progress we would have made by now; the healthcare progress.

It just doesn’t bear thinking about too much. Its too damn tragic.

When in US history have we had more than two major parties?
Be very specific.,

That’s pretty obnoxious – why don’t you be specific about when we have only had two parties?

You’d have to include elections where there were basically three parties: 1848, 1856, 1860, pretty much every national election 1880-1900, as well as third or fourth party candidates in 1912 (Eugene Debs!), 1924 (Bob LaFolette!), 1992 and 1996 (Ross Perot).

That has never happened, and it’s not how you make the Dems more progressive.

Above I linked to an article about how Sanders moved Clinton to the left, perhaps you could back up your assertion?

The Supreme Court, campaign funding, our global standing, the wars…

I wanted to watch her new show when I heard what it was about. But when I heard it would star Sarandon, I took a pass. It also sucks that I can never watch Rocky Horror Picture Show again. I know every damn word, every song, every dance. Sigh.

I know and look at the country = a new low in world opinion. New lows of all kinds.

And the GOP stole both elections in the 21st century that have resulted in GOP presidents.

She’s just like Stein and Sarandon* and the others, ignoring the reality of the current situation with Trump and the GOP and STILL screaming about “Democratic Party corruption” and “warmonger Hillary”. Turner still has this delusional feeling that Bernie could have gotten elected and waved his magic wand like Mr. Wizard and POOF! - a rainbow-farting unicorn on every corner, and all people will join hands and warble “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing”, and the entire political landscape of America will change 25 seconds after he’s sworn in.
Wake. The. Fuck. Up.
It don’t work that way.
*(And I hope no one takes these as examples of sexism. I know that there are more men who practice this insanity, but Stein and Susan and Nina always seem to get their screeds heard in the media the most. Sorry if I ever gave that kind of impression. I am not anti-woman. I am just anti-idiot.)

That you find facts to be obnoxious says a lot about you—none of it flattering.

I never said that the US has had ONLY two parties… You’re moving the goalposts to support your incredibly weak argument.
I did say—quite correctly—that we have always had two major parties—as noted in the part of my comment you quoted—and those parties have controlled the government, each in its own turn.

Third and fourth party candidates are spoilers or public jokes—or both.

Please continue to make yourself look foolish—it’s mildly amusing.

You’d think with all the student council type elections held from Middle school forward that there would be much more discussion about voting and such, but no.

What do you define as “major”? Let’s say third party candidates that captured more than 5% of the popular vote: 1848, 1856, 1860, 1892, 1912, 1924, 1948, 1968, 1980, 1992, and 1996. In 1860 and 1912 there were four candidates who made that threshold, in 1912 one was a Socialist.

What is the advantage of a two-party monopoly?

Maybe you should attend a midnight show dressed as Janet wearing a MAGA baseball cap. LOL!

Don’t know if I agree that it’ll take four years to clean it up. It’s only taken one year to undo it. It’ll be amazing how fast it all gets re-instated. I have great hopes for that.

But Hillary’s emails! Am I right, Bernie-Bros dead-enders, or am I right??? Stupid fuckwits. Once again, in the spirit of the holidays, let me be the first to say fuck you very, merry much. Thanks for giving us Trump, assholes.

I have no doubt that one of things that cost Clinton the election was people in PA, WI, and MI thinking it wasn’t really close and that they could vote 3rd party or stay home. There were folks here and elsewhere swearing up and down they were going to vote for someone else if they didn’t think it was close. You don’t know if it’s going to be close and if others are thinking the same as you are, you could quite easily throw an election to a Republican.

No one is arguing that there is an advantage to it.
That is your particular straw man, and he’s fallen and can’t get up.

It’s how or governmental system was designed by the Founders, who were tired of and suspicious of parliamentary systems.
As long as we have the US Constitution, we will have two major parties and assorted minor third or fourth parties that will only make it easier for the nutbars on the right to take control.

It doesn’t matter whether there is an advantage or a disadvantage to our system - what part of our system does not operate that way do you still not get?

It’s a winner take all system and more parties would cause it to break down because we would no longer get the majorities that are needed to form governments. It’s not a matter of not want to - it’s a matter of not possible.

It would result in nonstop runoffs. Every election.

He apparently considers the Free Soil party a major party. Cool name yes. Major party no.

Well, Thunder, I am sure President Jill Stein would heartily disagree with your analysis.
