Discussion: FBI Reportedly Probing Kremlin-Funded News Agency Sputnik

Uh oh, looks like Wray isn’t being a good boy.

“Any assertion that we are not a news organization is simply false,” Gavasheli told the site. “This is the first time I’m hearing about it, and I don’t think anyone at Sputnik was contacted, so thank you for letting us know.”

So many lies in so few words - right down to the ‘thank you’.

For very important background, read Andrew Feinberg’s article in Politico:

My Life at a Russian Propaganda Network

I saw that when it was released last month, and I am totally unsurprised he turned over Sputnik work-related emails to the FBI.

Interesting read.

Weird tidbit from the article:

having spent his career working for General Dynamics, which was contracted to run the Southeast European Times, a multilingual website that targeted the Balkans by pushing back against propaganda efforts from Russia and other countries.

Who knew that General Dynamics, one of the largest defense contractor conglomerates in the country also contracted to run a propaganda shop? Bizarre.

That is a fascinating article, isn’t it? I think he was referring to General Dynamics IT. There is a GDIT facility in my city. They mostly do two things: Federal IT infrastructure, and government call centers (e.g. answering incoming calls about the ACA).

Exercise: Explain why Sputnik is not a legitimate news organization, but FOX is. You have 30 minutes. Begin.

One is a government-owned propaganda machine.
The other is a propaganda machine that owns a government.
