Discussion: FBI Probing Assassination Graffiti Threat Against Omar Found At MN Gas Station

As long as they did not use the word “allegiance,” it’s all good.

False flag!

So I’m hoping that the Democrats will be introducing a Resolution denouncing anti-Muslim sentiment for this. Wouldn’t want us to be open to charges that we’re more concerned with the welfare of one group vice another.

The correct spelling gave it away.

Okay, let me get this straight. It’s “anti-semitic” to mention “Israel” and “money” in the same thought, but actual death threats against Moslems is hunky-dory? And any discussion of Israel’s apartheit policies is verboten? Uh, oh … that’s undoubtedly also a forbidden word in any discussion of Israel. My apologies.

Damn, you’re cynical!

He’s got a point. Looks like a right-hander, and that’s some pretty straight-line penmanship for a toilet stall.

Let’s not conflate condemnation of Rep. Omar’s at-best-unfortunate remarks on Israel and American Jews with the failure to move strongly enough against racism, homophobia and Islamophobia. The House resolution is a condemnation of comments made by one of its members. And it is significant that the resolution is proposed by Democrats against one of their own. It would be good if the Republicans would propose similar resolutions against Steve King and Louie Gohmert (in Louie’s case, they could have a continuing resolution for everything he says), but until a Democrat makes like remarks about African-Americans, LGBT people or Muslims, it won’t be the same thing.

Go back and read Josh’s explanation, here:

I presume no one in any official capacity is saying that, yet! – but meanwhile AOC and others are asking some good questions which I’m sure the Democratic leadership will address with all due urgency:

where are the resolutions against homophobic statements? For anti-blackness? For xenophobia? For a member saying he’ll “send Obama home to Kenya?”

All words used to criticize the US policy of funding and enabling the war-crime-committing, international law-violating, racist, apartheid far-right-wing Likud government of criminally-indicted Benjamin Netanyahu have now been weaponized as anti-semitism. The First Rule of Likud Club is that we don’t talk about Likud Club…

These ladies are as tough as nails, and they are already changing the terms of the debate.

I’m certainly not. I’m right with AOC that if these Resolutions are the way to go, then let’s bring out the list, because it’s fairly long. And by laying the Resolution as the bar to meet, then anything less than that for other issues places a hierarchy wherein those are perceived as having less value.

See my post above. The resolution is by (or at least supported by) the Democratic leadership. As far as I know, in living memory no Democrat in the house has come out in favor of homophobia, racism, Islamophobia or xenophobia.

The problem with Josh’s explanation is that it relies on assumptions that look a little too much like Muslim stereotyping.

I read his article when he posted it. Found it unpersuasive.

No doubt he is as disgusted by the gas-station threat against Omar as you and I are.

They have before now. Maybe they’ll do it again.

And Democrats in the House have come out in favor of anti-Semitism?

I don’t think so. Not recently, anyway.
