You can probably trust Chris Wray not to go full Trump, if for no other reasons than he would never risk his law license or his ability to go back to the firm after he leaves the FBI. He’s likely not answering the question because he doesn’t want to lie and publicly admitting the truth would get him into too much trouble with Dear Leader.
Full disclosure. Wray is my former law partner and, although I didn’t know him well at all personally, he was well-respected.

I honestly think he’s doing his best to be an honest, straight shooter, but because he works for a President who won’t live up to his Constitutional responsibilities, it’s only a matter of time before he is fired.
It appears he tried to protect McCabe and was successful to the extent that it required Sessions to pull the trigger -despite his supposed recusal -potentially opening him up to obstruction charges.
There’s not much doubt that everyone who works for Trump comes away reputationally damaged. You’re forced into moral dilemmas all the time. But he was and is respected.
