Discussion: FBI Director Acknowledges Risk Of Creating 'Misleading Impression'

The very fact of its existence, as well as its timing.

So you don’t think he could have at minimum inform Congress that it is also possible these “new emails” found on Anthony’s computer may have already been examined, because the emails were sent using Huma’s personal email account. Because you know you have members who are chairs of committees and are mentally challenged GoPers, need specifics, otherwise their wobbly minds wonder to the worse extreme of any spectrum.

This reflects very badly on the FBI and Director Comey. The first question that comes to mind:

“Sir, are you telling us that, when you concluded your investigation in July, you had not looked to see which top aides Secretary Clinton might have communicated with, and did not follow up by examining their email records? Isn’t this the sort of investigative work the FBI is supposed to do?”

The only true reason that Comey put out this steaming pile of (non)-information was to protect his OWN interests. In other words, his own butt is worth far more to him than tossing an unprecedented wrench into a presidential election.

I mean, who could have predicted, besides everyone, that Republicans would purposely misinterpret and misrepresent this non-event, acting as though some smoking gun had been found? And who could have predicted, besides everyone, that the media would swallow and regurgitate any and all of the Republican nonsense? Even if the media bothers to
walk the story back at all, their narrative is still just focused on the ‘roiling’ caused by their initial uncritical coverage.

‘New e-mails roil the election’ - yeah sure. Why not, ‘Cowardly FBI Director roils the election’ or
‘News media falls (again) for Republican propaganda - election roiled’ .

Even the NYT has a milquetoast editorial in which the blame for this ‘roiling’ is really just Clinton’s fault because she didn’t deal with the e-mail ‘issue’ long ago in some imaginary manner that would have ended the controversy, Who do they think they are kidding? The only thing that would satisfied the Republicans would have been Clinton immolating herself on a giant pyre of the e-mails.

I realize that this doesn’t really matter at this point but do you or anyone else know why Obama kept or chose this guy as head of FBI? Placating rabid Republicans? He did that a few times here and there and it never did any good.
Just wondering.

Possible duplicates??? I guess The Director never sat his early smart phone next to his desk top only to later discover they had, without human knowledge, commingled electronic machine ‘fluids’.
How the Russians must be laughing at these idiotic bureaucrats…

I just received another email from Hillary’s campaign. Contributing again. I think I probably need counseling. The angrier I get the more money I spend and I’m one pissed off nasty woman.

I’m pretty sure Hillary will win regardless of this letter, especially as the media is turning more of its criticism towards Comey at this point, rather than Hillary. That criticism is certainly warranted, but it is only one part of the equation. The media itself was very sloppy in its handling of the situation, particularly with its headlines that reeked of sensationalism.

I want Hillary to win, naturally (I voted for her this morning), but I worry about the effect this situation may have on down ballot races. The Republicans may be able to create just enough confusion with this misinformation to minimize Democratic gains in Congress.

To me its the inference of the phrase “new emails”, as if they are totally a brand new unseen batch of emails were revealed. And just how likely are these emails are indeed “brand new emails”? We all know that all of Clinton’s aides emails have been examined and investigated before and it is very possible these emails are NOT “new emails”.

There is no way he an serve under President Hillary Clinton. He should offer his resignation on November 9, because his conduct in this investigation has been horrendous.

Comey has been weighed, he has been measured and he has been found lacking.

Hey Comey,
I heard Costco sent an email to HRC. You better announce another investigation.
You don’t want to mislead anyone? Yeah right.

The number of terrorist plots that the FBI’s prevented under Comey’s tenure might be a clue. He’s good. He’s kept the nation safe. More people have died in the U.S. from GM’s faulty ignition switch than from terrorism these past eight years.

Which is why he has to go.

Does anybody, but die-hard partisans, believe that there is any chance that there will be a smoking gun email that proves that Hillary intentionally compromised classified material?

The very fact of its existence, as well as its timing.

So I’ll ask you the same thing I’ve asked from the get-go. What would you have preferred to have happened?

  • Comey ignores this, only to have it discovered later that the FBI suppressed new information about Clinton’s email server, confirming the belief Clinton is getting special protection from the law?
  • FBI waits until after the election, confirming all assertions they connived to get Clinton into the WH?
  • A House Investigative committee finds these emails and they control the investigation (God forbid)?

I’m not happy either to have this happen 11 days before the end of elections, but it seems to me the alternatives are worse.

The FBI, like the military, has been the focus of rightwing political penetrations for a long time as I discovered several years ago when a marijuana-using and sexually active acquaintance through mutual employment curiously married a particularly super insane special agent.
But, then I remember when the FBI files of a SDS-involved cousin were released through a FOIA media request years ago and we learned the Feds had him listed as a different age, race and religion…oops.

I have always supported President Obama and always had the highest regard for him EXCEPT -

I believe that he strongly believed that the Repub./Democrat divide could be mended simply by bringing people in from the other side to get alternate opinions and foster a sense of unity. EXCEPT -

It didn’t work. The majority of the Rethugs were/are nothing more than anarchists who absolutely want to destroy this country and rebuild it in their image regardless of what anyone else wants. Hopefully Madame President will not succumb to that misguided idea. No Rethugs in the Administration. Ever.

I would have preferred that he wait a couple of days to be sure that he had more complete and more accurate information.

I would have preferred that he be far more careful in what he said and how he said it. Because what he did was to drop a bombshell that opponents are free to twist any way they choose. And because Comey didn’t clarify anything, Clinton is not free to fight back.
