Discussion: ‘Fat Ugly Face,’ Other Trump Insults About Women Highlighted In Clinton Ad (VIDEO)

Sounds like it’ll be a good ad.

Should have included the remarks about “dating” Diana in his fantasy life.

this ad or a similar one has been running in CA for about 10 days… I’m a little surprised because we don’t normally get campaign ads because it’s pretty foregone conclusion CA will go blue…

Trump: This shows how strong and decisive I am. Thanks Hillary.

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why any woman would support Trump.

Color me confused.

Is it on cable news channels and not local TV? I am in a blue state, and we get ads on CNN and MSNBC, but not really the local channels.

The sad truth is that there are many Republicans INCLUDING Kim Davis “born again” types who will only see this as another reason to vote for Trump.

Ask Kim Davis. Her “deep Christian Faith” compels her to vote for Trump…

Is this the president we want for our daughters?

Absolutely not! It’s appalling that we, as a nation, would even consider such a misogynist creep for the job.

Of course, for my daughter and my son I’d prefer a President who didn’t have a predilection for foreign military intervention, but I guess one can’t have everything, can one?

not sure… after the first couple times I sort of tune out the ads… my initial reaction is just the surprise in seeing any national candidate ads at all not so much what channel they’re on… I know it’s not CNN or MSNBC that I’ve seen them on because I don’t watch either of those anymore…

I can’t take the shallowness or lameness of the cable news channels… when I was working I hated going to meetings… I used to tell people I had better ways to waste my time… same with the cable news channels…

These ads using Trump’s words against him are very powerful. I saw another ad on Sec. Clinton’s Instagram account about her lifelong commitment to working for children. I know criticizing Trump is all too easy because of the wealth of material available, but I wish her competence and dedication to service would be highlighted more often as well. Both ads are excellent; it’s too bad that only the one is getting the wider attention.

As an ad, this is very good, in part because it is low-key. Even Drumpf is not yelling and waving his arms. But one of the problems here–and in the campaign–is that Drumpf provides so many targets that it’s hard to concentrate on a few and really drive them down his throat. Going after all of his outrageous statements scatters the force of the argument against him. Hillary needs to pick a few of his weaknesses and hit them over, and over and over and over again, until the average voter knows them like she knows the back of her hand.

These ads have struck me with their contrast between the flickering images of the Trump persona and the more three-dimensional depiction of real people leading lives where his kind of piggish and brutal shallowness has consequences. I’ve certainly never seen a political ad in which a young woman wonders if she’s attractive. It evokes a protective instinct and makes you see this as really a choice between decency and kindness on one side and a loathsome, cruel crudeness and superficiality on the other. Good stuff, long story short.

All together they give the message that Trump is simply unfit to lead the country. One that i’m seeing here in Pittsburgh all the time is the ad that shows Republicans criticizing Trump. At the end it says Unfit, even for Republicans. That’s the overarching theme of these ads. If you’re in swing country, you’re seeing all these ads on tv.

Those aren’t the voters she’s even remotely looking to sway. This is aimed at suburban moms and dads and young women, many of whom think sexism is a thing of the past. How many parents will see this ad over their morning coffee only to have their teenage daughter later ask, “does this make me look fat?” Parents are already battling against peer pressure and media images that make young women feel bad about themselves, do they really want that message coming from the most powerful person in the world too? It evokes a subtle unspoken question too: what if he was talking about your daughter? This ad works on many levels. I’d run this ad during primetime on the big for nets and on Oxygen, Vh1, E!, etc.

The only thing that concerns me is that she’s got to start running positive ads about herself. She’s got to give voters as much of a reason to vote for her as they have to vote against Trump.

I hear what you’re saying, and agree that mass communications have to be focused, but I think this ad is more focused than you might suspect. Trump has real weakness in a kind of ethical demographic, the “nice people,” you might say, people who see him as crude and boorish no matter what their political leanings might be. Since he barely has any stated or fixed politics of his own, this is a good weakness to pound him on IMHO.

Pick any one of those four and that’s enough for half the country. Then there are the people who have been straight ticket Republicans all their lives, and will never ever change. They are incapable of rational thought when it comes to politics. I know a bucket load of smart professional people that fall into that last category.

Are you talking about the one with military veterans looking angry and appalled as Trump talks about his sacrifices? Or, is that another one? Regardless, I agree with your point. These ads are pieces of a whole. I have no doubt she’ll be airing similar ads, where he targets Hispanics, on Spanish language television as well. She should also cut some urban radio ads, which is probably the most effective way to reach black folks, with some of his musings on black communities and culture. But again she’s got to balance all that with positive messaging about herself. Her accomplishments are vast and people really need to hear about them.
