Discussion for article #241968
Oh, boy. Is this ever going to be claimed as victory by some dolts. I’m looking at you, Huck. No wait, that was Palin. I sometimes get my dolts mixed up.
Way to go (rightwing) America!
Religious Freedom, the American Way.
Guessing the rightwing talking point: “They needed to be debriefed by their handlers.”
Huckabee: I stand by Ahmed for the religious persecution he has suffered in Obama’s Ameica.
Yeah, let’s drive all the bright kids away, unless the have the right complexions and acceptable names and believe in the right kinds of gods.
I feel even more sorry for the kid – who ever trumpets the quality of education in Quatar?? Let alone if he was at all acculturated here…
New message to world: Don’t send us your tired and poor. And don’t even send us your smart, your funny, your positive, your constructive. We’re increasingly a society governed by reactionary dolts and there are more welcoming, more forward-looking, more simply human places in the world you might consider living in.
Hey, worked out great for Germany.
Or perhaps: “His plot to blow up the Christian infidels at his school having been foiled by some keen-eyed patriots who weren’t fooled for a minute by his NASA T-shirt, he made one last contact with the Head Muslim in the White House to receive his final orders and will then flee the country before his true jihadist objectives can be waterboarded out of him.”
Cruz: This is a win for Christianity as our founders wanted it to be.
I suppose it would be nice to not have your kid arrested for having a funny name.
But: ¨Stoning is a legal punishment in Qatar.[105] Apostasy is a crime punishable by the
death penalty in Qatar.[106] Blasphemy is punishable by up to seven years in prison and proselytizing can be punished by up to 10 years in prison.[106] Homosexuality is a crime punishable by the death penalty for Muslims.[107] The abaya must be worn by women.[73]¨
That´s even worse than Texas.
This smells funny.
Nah, it’s pretty much the same. In both Texas and Qatar, as long as you follow the correct religion and you’re not gay, you’ll get along just fine.
And so we strike another blow for diversity. I get that the foundation is probably seeing this as a high profile case that they can score points off of. I get that the Huckabees of the world, and the mayor of the town his family is leaving are anti-Muslim extremists, who will celebrate this. But what kind of future do we have if this is the only “solution”? This kid is smart; what if he’d been embraced and wound up contributing to our future with some invention?
I do not feel sorry for him. In fact I admire him. He’ll likely get a fantastic education that will prepare him for a solid STEM career. I attended college with some kids from the middle east. In addition to most being very well off then, they were very smart and very well prepared for math and the sciences. Most of those I knew were enrolled in either civil or petroleum engineering. The language barrier sometimes existed, but their math and science skills were always solid. That would be the kind of environment someone like him needs to thrive.
To be clear, his “homemade clock” was actually a small metal case containing the innards of a store-bought alarm clock. Not only did it look kind of like a bomb, but that was clearly the whole point.
To be clear, I don’t think he should have been arrested for it, and I don’t think he meant to harm anyone or even really scare anyone. But he is not as blameless in this affair as the initial reporting would lead us to believe. It wasn’t a “science project” or an “invention” that he innocently brought to school …
Too many big words, sentence structure is too complex. Needs more simplicity and idiocy. Also, more words that are capitalized or misspelled.
Please provide a shred of evidence that he intended for it to look like a bomb…Go ahead, I’ll wait.\
ETA: Also, please pass along this evidence to the Chief of police in Irving, TX because, despite talking extensively with Ahmed and his family and actually having inspected the thing, he does not believe Ahmed intended for it to be a hoax bomb.
