Discussion: FACT CHECK: Trending Story That Clinton Won Just 57 Counties Is Untrue

“57”. Where did they get the artbitrary number 57?

Oh, yeah. The original Manchurian Candidate movie explains the origin of that number.

ETA: By the way, the “count the counties” logic is nonsense even if were true WHICH IT ISN’T.
It’s like saying Hillary has 57 $5 bills but Trump has 4,700 pennies so Trump has more money.

She may not have won 57 counties but she is still ahead in the popular vote, so Trump does not get to drape the word mandate over his shoulders unless he is referring to Putin as his man date.

Possibly a dog whistle for the Bundyites who claim that county sheriffs are the ultimate Constitutional authority. Or the ones who posit that a county with more gophers than people is the same thing as LA County.

Maybe they meant “57 states?” Seems to be a popular phrase with the Right…

An AP count finds that Clinton beat Trump by roughly 1.5 million votes in New York City. Nationwide, Clinton holds a popular vote lead of more than 2 million.

This scares the shit out of me. How close was California?

This type of story is such a crock of shit. Who care if Trump won geographic areas? The President of the United States is the leader of the PEOPLE of the nation, not the acreage.

Trump ran up high margins in the old Confederacy, so the high margin in California (8,581,312 4,393,409) is why Clinton won the popular vote so decisively.

Fact checking Trump supporters is easy. They don’t recognize that facts exist so just go with these easy three step instructions:

  1. If a story, article or even a statement has its source from a Trump supporter or the president-elect it is a lie.
  2. See number 1.
  3. See number 2.

Well, Republicans essentially ran on a Blood and Soil platform, so it does make some sense for them to place such importance on land.

It was a different, simpler time.

A trending story that claims Hillary Clinton won a total of 57 counties in the presidential election is untrue.

I seem to recall President Obama’s misstatement that he’d visited 57 states causing an uproar among Republicans, who claimed that there are 57 Muslim “states” and that’s what Obama was talking about.

So why did they fabricate something about Hillary and 57 counties? From this, I can only conclude that the Muslims and probably ISIS, control Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

That is fucking fantastic!

I had forgotten how great that movie was. I have to rewatch it. I’m sure that that isn’t the only scene that resonates with today’s politics.

Well, to be fair, 57 is quite close to 400 and something.

Ah, the old “hey dumbass, land doesn’t goddamned vote - people do” issue. Always a family favorite that leaves me banging my head against a wall each election cycle.

Clinton won by over 25 million toes.

Except it was largely about a communist conspiracy to take over the US. Real good cold war soft porn for the John Birch Society.

What F***ing difference would it make anyway? each human vote counts as much as every other one – and she’s got more – way more. He won the contest, but she got more votes; our country is not a democracy and never was – but if there is a God, he does not give white men more clout in heaven than anyone else, and nothing you say here on earth will change that. So, good luck.
