Shut down Facebook tomorrow and I’ll be perfectly happy.
But having said that…isn’t this the whole point of targeted advertising?
Have you deleted your Facebook account yet? If not, here’s how:
I wonder if this will stop being “settled law” after Kavanaugh.
I think that when early libertarian loons thought the internet would be a place where ordinary law did not reach, they imagined it would be because it was effectively owned by a few large companies.
The sooner this cancer goes, the better,
Google is just as data guzzling, but at least they offer some useful freebies from maps to docs to mail etc.
What does FB offer beyond reminding us just why we hadn’t bothered to talk to people the last few years/decades.
And all this faux “equal opportunities”, blue skies, kumbaya is just a smokescreen.
As others have commented, including our host, predatory practices and dubious uses of data are fundamental to Facebook’s business model. Changing organization and practices without reducing profits would be incredibly difficult at this point and it is doubtful Facebook could pull it off so instead they will slap whatever band-aids and whitewash they can on problems while running pretty much as before, at least until advertisers start to notice they just aren’t getting as much bang for the buck as they used to or thought they were.
I don’t think Facebook has to worry. I am sure Donald J. Trump sees nothing wrong with sexually targeted job advertising. He will issue an executive order changing the law in 4…3…2…1…
“There is no place for discrimination on Facebook; it’s strictly prohibited in our policies. We look forward to defending our practices once we have an opportunity to review the complaint.”
“There’s no place for discrimination here at Facebook. We look forward to defending our discrimination as soon as we can!”
