Age/Sex, Race, Religion

The median age in Iowa is 38 years of age. The gender ratio is approximately 50.3% female and 49.7% male.

The racial diversity of Iowa is visible in the pie chart below, with 90.9% Caucasian, 3.3% African American, 2.1% Asian, 1.3% other race, 2% two races, and .4% Natives of North America.

In religious terms, Iowa shows its general preferences with 77% Christian based faith, 1% non-Christian based faiths, and 21% of the population identifying as non-affiliated with any religion.

Do you have that breakdown–ethnic, religious, etc in a chart of all 50 states? I would be interested in which states most closely track nation as a whole. As a guess I’d say NJ, Maryland, then Virginia and Ohio. But Ohio is too big for door-to-door, first in nation politics.

It would be nice but an exercise in futility

Cory for the WH? Just another Wall Street footman. And we just had one not too long ago. Sad.

The representatives of Iowa certainly are reprehensible…

Some time months back I was planning to write a comment that included something criticizing Iowa for failing to keep the state attractive enough to retain its young people.

I thought I’d better fact check myself and I was surprised to learn that Iowa isn’t close to having the most-aged population in the US. Iowa’s median age is right around the middle of the pack for US states.

90.9% Caucasian

I’ve never lived in an area like that, but I can recall childhood summer vacations in rural South Dakota where wouldn’t see a non-white person the entire time I was there.

Cory Booker isn’t being subtle.

My wife knew him well in the Freshman year of college and, even then, everybody understood that he was aiming to become a governor or President.

OH look! a Ne-gro
They can’t understand because they’ve never been exposed

Hence, my grandparents thought nothing of saying “black as a n-baby” and calling Brazil nuts “n-toes.” To their credit, those terms disappeared over the years.

People in the area are as nice as can be as long as you don’t challenge their conventions in any way. Right now, almost any non-rural part of the country challenges many of their conventions, so they get downright grumpy about it even though they aren’t directly affected.
