Discussion for article #229020

Somehow this is all Obama’s fault. I just know it is.

Thanks, Obama!

It all goes back to when he had Archduke Ferdinand assassinated.

WTF?? My tax dollars are putting bread and butter in the mouths of men who killed my friends and relatives, brutally, without remorse? This is the return I get for the blood, sweat and tears in my paycheck? My children won’t get any Social Security because it was all spent to support Nazis returning to the Fatherland?

I find this way too easy to believe.

Clearly Social Security needs to be ended.

Why are people complaining? I think it’s great that Nazis paid millions into the Social Security system - let’s just hope they didn’t get paid any of it.

Oh, you mean they did? I guess that headline was a little confusing. Too bad TPM still can’t seem to find EDITORS WHO CAN WRITE UNAMBIGUOUS HEADLINES. I blame Obama, of course.

And then he had the Czar, the Czarina and the five little Czarettes assassinated. He’s had in his hand in every dastardly thing that’s ever unfolded in the history of time.

When I was young I thought living in the U.S. was amazing. As I get older and learn of things like this I start to think what a joke this country can be. How did we not just burn these guys at the stake? Nazis tortured and killed dour GIs let alone everyone else, and we let them all escape. Meanwhile we give people 20 - 30 years for pot. No wonder why corruption is rampant in our country. I would guess that when you have a clear view of what really goes on behind the curtains things are so convoluted that stealing money from people in your own country probably makes more sense than paying war criminals living in other countries getting paid tax payer dollars, at least in this case.

And I was 'round when Jesus Christ
Had his moment of doubt and pain

I shouted out,
“Who killed the Kennedys?”
When after all
It was me-me-me!

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name
It’s Barack Hussein Obama (a/k/a Teh Anti-Christ)

[OK, so it doesn’t rhyme as well as some versions]

Consider the alternative, where the government decides to accuse someone of a criminal act and gets to pre-emptively revoke their social security without benefit of trial.

It’s not just headlines. The writers here just aren’t all that good at actually writing things. I frequently have to stop and re-read a sentence a couple of times before I can really suss out exactly what it was the writer was trying to tell me. Not sure why or how that is, but there it is regardless.

Um, because we have rule of law and don’t permit cruel and unusual punishments, even against murdering Nazi concentration camp guards? That’s actually kinda one of the good things, not one of the bad things, about living here.

I do find it disappointing that we let these guys run away rather than trying them or extraditing them and even more disappointing that there are countries they could go to that were safe havens, but, honestly, burning people alive without a trial is, well, lynching, a thing we ought to all be against, if only because it could happen to any of us if it is allowed. It was a thing that used to happen a lot, not so very long ago, as it happens.

Imperfect solution to an imperfect situation.

The OSI was worried that they would end up in front of an immigration judge and not only have a long, dragged-out trial but also garner sympathy for being ancient, possibly close to destitution, and then having their old-age insurance removed from them and being deported to…somewhere (since nobody would take them).

Getting them to just go away on their own was the best they could come up with.

I’m just surprised they didn’t get “disappeared” to a German court by the usual suspects.

get over your outrage, 1.5 million (cumulative, not each) is not much money at all.We spent more one one bomb last month lobbing them at ISIS.

Yeah, but welfare queens are all black !

@CaptainCommonsense - do you think they’d get sympathy from the Greatest Generation, or anyone other than StormFront jerks?

Social security is paid for by people who worked and paid into it. $1500 a month is not excessive in the US where he spent most of his working years - that’s $18,000 a year. Do you want to try to live on that?

Despite his horrible past and probable crimes, this guy is not taking money from the mouths of any American by collecting the Social Security money he is due. SS is not paid for by American taxes, it’s paid for by workers who pay into it.

Prosecute him for his crimes and leave his meager pension that he paid for alone. It is not a political football. What’s next, eliminating SS for all felons? All Democrats? All poor people?

TPM, of all places, should know this, and stop implying otherwise.

Very good. Thanks for that.

The dirty little secret is that even before World War II ended, it became clear that the Russians would be our chief rival after the war.

America (George Marshall) made a conscience decision to maintain a cap on combat divisions at 90. In contrast, the Russians had 300.

http://www.history.army.mil/books/70-7_15.htm

So once the war ended, we found ourselves outnumbered, and outgunned by the Russians, and with little or no intelligence about our soon to be former ally.

German scientists, and yes Nazi soldiers and officers were turned to fill the gap in both cases.

German scientists, who led the world in the field of physics in the 1930’s helped us maintain a technological edge in our weaponary.

Also, who better to give intelligence than the soldiers and officers who spent 4 years fighting the Red Army from the outskirts of Moscow all the way to the gates of Berlin.

So some of these statements like “it wasn’t discovered until decades later…” are mostly bullshit. We knew who these people were when we let them in, but our National Security was more important than their unsavory and in some cases murderous backgrounds.

As an aside, to anybody that is interested, the Russians won the war in Europe, not the U.S. By the time we quit fooling around in North Africa and Italy, the main event in Europe was for all intents and purposes over. The Russians had broken the back of the Wehrmacht at Kursk in 1943. In retrospect, we can now say, success at Normandy was never in question, and that the U.S, was fighting a German Army that was a shadow of its former self.

We did win the war in the Pacific, by ourselves, and with one hand tied behind our backs.

This is purely revisionist history in my opinion, we made a bargain with the devil because we found ourselves almost immediately at odds with the Russians.

Now we want to pretend that it never happened, and that we never used Nazi Scientists, and Nazi Soldiers to help us win the Cold War against the Soviets.

Well, we did make a deal with a lot of these people, and it is too late to do anything now that they have delivered on their end. Please don’t buy the BS that we “Just discovered XY and Z”

yeah, right.
