Expectations for another delicious Republican debacle, on the other hand, are being raised.
We need cover for our frightened GOPers facing town-halls. So here’s their fig leafs.
GOP Fake News.
CAFM… stop torturing that poor legislation…
In other words, they found a way to make their already horrible health care bill even worse, so that they can win over the so-called Freedom Caucus, whose members live in an alternate reality where taking health coverage away from tens of millions of Americans was considered a pretty good thing, but not quite good enough, whereas taking health insurance away from tens of millions of Americans and ALSO stripping essential health benefits from those lucky souls who still have insurance, and ALSO charging far more to sicker people and shunting them off into underfunded high-risk pools is considered a GREAT thing.
To a point, that makes perfect sense – they are appealing to sociopathic assholes, so an assholish sociopathic proposal makes perfect sense.
The question is, are there enough spineless cowards among the so-called GOP moderates in the Tuesday Group who can be enticed, bribed, intimidated, threatened or coerced into going along with a proposal that will harm even more people than the bill many of them declined to support the first time because of how many people it would hurt?
The fact that the real-world health outcomes of millions of Americans likely rests on the answer to that last question is a sobering reflection of just how horribly, dangerously dysfunctional our political situation is in this country right now.
They will pass something and once again we will have 50 million people without care, ER rooms full, rural hospitals closing, rates rising to make up the losses, and Trump tweeting how he made American Great Again.
They can not help themselves.
“There is no legislative text and therefore no agreement to do a whip count on,” and nothing that the CBO can score.
“ACA Repeal Part Deux: Fixing the Fallen Soufflé” …
The GOP wants to get this done so badly they want to make sure only democrat fingerprints are on this
compassionate conservatism: killing the weak will be far easier than the suffering we intend to inflict.
