Discussion: EXCLUSIVE: Comey Has Brought On Former U.S. Attorney Pat Fitzgerald As One Of His Lawyers

I’m just glad to see a top lawyer has found some paying work. Times have been tough lately for the really good ones, what with having to turn down unsuitable clients so much.

FITZ! makes me feel old, but almost rescued!

Comey, unlike a moronic President I know, is able to attract top legal talent to his side.

I realize Skadden Arps is a big firm, but interesting Fitzgerald works for the same firm involved with Manafort, Ukraine, and Van der Zwaan.

The contrast in legitimacy and competence is striking compared to the representation options available to *Rump. I wonder if he has the capacity to understand his situation?

If he’s innocent, why does he need such a big-time mouthpiece?

[Edit: I don’t believe I’ve ever had a post that got so many responses. So, for those of you in high dudgeon over my remark, know this, please: I WASN’T BEING SERIOUS.]

I only wonder why Trump hasn’t recruited Kobach yet to represent him - possibly the only attorney less capable than Cohen.

Huh?

Is this the same Patrick Fitzgerald who (wisely) turned down the invitation to represent Chiselin’ Trump?

It’ll be Fitzmas in July!

It would be damn tricky to try to make important legal hiring decisions in a scenario like this one, where the most qualified people on the planet are also your close personal friends. Hard to be impartial.

I’m glad I don’t face that sort of challenge in my line of work.

I’d guess not. Metacognitive insight doesn’t seem to be one of his signature strengths. Fleecing the rubes, that’s one, sure. In time we may notice others. But that seems like the only one so far.

I don’t know what chops Fitzgerald brings to the defensive side of the table, but this is fantastic just for the symbolism and making the talking heads discuss historically recent prosecutions, convictions, and sentencing of White House personnel for impeding a federal investigation.

It’s not clear whether Fitzgerald is assisting Comey in that inspector general investigation, whether Fitzgerald has had any direct contact on Comey’s behalf with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team as it investigates whether there was collusion between President Trump’s campaign and Russia during the 2016 election, or if he’s been directly in touch with the various Capitol Hill committees investigating Trump and Russia.

Or whether he simply wants a front-row seat from which to enjoy Chiselin’ Trump’s inevitable downfall, due to Chiselin’ Trump’s recent pardon of Scooter Libby.

Trump: “Where does he get those wonderful lawyers?”

Just guessing there won’t be any stray internal comments left in THOSE filings!

I’ve admired Patrick Fitzgerald for so many years since he first came into focus during the Scooter Libby case–so much so that I found myself hoping he’d be Obama’s nominee for attorney general way back in his first term. Now here he is: a man of impeccable experience and integrity as well as a close friend. As much as I deplored the FBI leaking and some crucial decision making on Comey’s part prior to the election, I am a grateful citizen, just knowing that Patric Fitzgerald has come on board in this perilous time.

Another headline that made me smile. Actually, I yelled, “Yay!”

hahaha, Trump.

would only say “Ask Pat”

And what happens if you “Ask Pat”? Why, you get a “Pat Answer.”

I’ll show myself out.
