Hard to go into this open minded. The false pretenses of being about monument removal never surfaced but the racism and white supremacy horseshit was right there.
The city’s preparedness and police response surely need review and improvement but the clash comes down to the age old racial tension in America and President Heil Stupid reigniting old flames for want of popularity.
The racial divide isn’t just going away, review or no review, but the preparedness and de-militarization of the police can be vastly improved.
This brings to mind when Christie hired somebody to investigate his administration. I think there are better ways to get this sort of thing done.
I wonder what he will find out about the attitudes of the police and other officials. Laissez faire is obviously not a sane policy, but the police have become so militarized (remained so militarized?) that crowd control without the paramilitary apparatus seems to be beyond them at this point.
I’m remembering that part of what made the Nazis successful was their ability to defeat other parties in street battles, under conditions where the police had mostly given up on trying to maintain order. That’s clearly what the neo-nazis are hoping for, even as they have no clue what that would actually mean.
