Boo Boos and Boners, They’ll Get Ya Every Time!!

> In Wolfe’s remarks in front of the judge before she handed down his sentence, Wolfe tearfully apologized to his wife, his sons, and his former colleagues at the Senate Intelligence Committee.

> “I’ll spend the rest of my life paying the price for my actions,” he said.

Not, one understands, that one would wish for any other persons to come to the same realization…

Mister Nightlinger’s Prayer does come to mind, however.

Let’s compare Wolfe’s sentence with that of Papadopolous:

Papado

Lied to the FBI about his being an intermediary between the Trump campaign and the Russian government in its successful attempt to subvert a national election and install a POTUS of their choice.

Though most first-time offenders convicted of lying to federal authorities escape with probation, Judge Randolph D. Moss said that Mr. Papadopoulos deserved a stiffer sentence because he had impeded an investigation of “grave national importance.” NYT

Sentence: 14 days in prison

Wolfe

Lied to the FBI about leaking to reporters non-public information about an FBI investigation into Carter Page in connection with his involvement with the conspiracy that Papado was part of.

“Lying to the FBI is a serious crime, especially when it is committed a by a government official who understands the importance to truthfulness in a national security investigation,” the judge said. She also imposed four months of supervised release and a $7,500 fine.

his lies to the FBI were the “culmination” of four years of “duplicitous” conduct

Sentence: 2 months in prison, 4 months post-release supervision, $7500 fine

Conclusion

Wolfe is generally a serious, responsible adult who “understands the importance” of national security and law enforcement, and so that’s the standard he was held to.

Papado is a known to be nitwit, and his indifference to national security is rivaled by his own carelessness. He is a low creature, so he’s held to a lower bar. Nevermind that he participated directly in a conspiracy to attack the United States.

I don’t know how to square the “four-years” issue. Wolfe was dishonest for a long time. Papado was a flash in the pan. But the latter actively worked to further a criminal conspiracy that is properly considered an act of war, whereas the former was, at most, increasing the risk to national security by divulging secrets related to a national security investigation.

If my house burns down, I don’t blame the people who filled it with books and wooden furniture. I blame the asshole who threw a burning object through the window and onto the pile of books.

Yeah, the System needed to refresh the RightWing Noise Machine’s “mind” that it’s a common and punishable felony to lie to the FBI. Martha Stewart might want do it, too, on her next cooking show.

these traitors are getting slapped with sentences measuring in days and weeks for selling out our country. I sell 10 sheets of LSD and was LUCKY to only get 5 years, for a first offense.

It sounds as if the judge does kinda think that having an affair is a crime. Or using your position to troll for young women to entertain on the side.

And former NSA Flynn gets… nothing?

I don’t see how that plays.
