Discussion: Ex-New York Times Editor Clobbers Paper For 'Crucifying' Its Own Reporter

I’m assuming you said that with a tip of the hat and then a smart swing of your walking stick…

I’m convinced (based on their long term behavior) that many of the editors at NYT are narcissistic f*ckwits.

I just received an email notice from the NYT that they will no longer include a free subscription to their recipe site for subscribers to their on-line paper. To retain access, I’ve been asked to pay an additional $2.50 a month (introductory rate)

I don’t know what a stand-alone subscription will cost.

There was a time (before I ditched it for good) that the recipe access figured heavily into my subscription cost vs content calculation.

I consider the Times a splurge too.

I share many of the complaints other members of TPM have with the Times, but I think there’s enough good in their paper to be worth it.

Also, as a resident outside of New York (I live in what you might call a rural/emerging fringe suburb area in another state), I also enjoy the insights they provide on museums, restaurants, music, communities and other news that “big city” readers might take for granted.

Thanks.

Not sure I agree with all of it but they sure got InfoWars and Fox News in the right places.

Thank you! I was thinking it was maybe Assface Fartburgler McShitJuggler the Second… Ya know, these conservative ratcking crisis actor reactionaries all sound so much alike that it’s impossible to keep them straight.

NPR is what I listen to while I work. There are a few hosts that drive me nuts, but all in all, it is neutral enough that I can actually have it on in the background without blowing a gasket. I’ve come to appreciate Science Friday even though most of the time, I have no idea what they are talking about. Ira Flatow is just plain fun.

If I don’t listen to ATC every afternoon, I feel stupid for the rest of the day.
And NewsHour has the best in-depth coverage of major stories—without the excess drama or personality-driven coverage.

Washington Week is also good.

Yup, same here.

Someone recently turned me on to a podcast called The Daily with Michael Barbaro. I like it, though I’ve only listened a few times so far.

Do you get ‘Fresh Air’ (Terry Gross is the host) where you are?

So do we. To ease the pain of the real world news I start with the Arts Section, the Food or Style section, procrastinate a bit with the X-word puzzle then steady myself for the main section. And I too read it online because it’s right now news. Yes, pretty costly, but when you have a daily sub did you know that you can give a gift of digital access at no cost to a designated friend. I’ve given one to a friend who lives elsewhere, and she’s thrilled to death.

@greylady Your user name alone says you don’t have overwhelming problems with their reporting. But did you know about the digital access you can give a friend with a paid sub?

Very helpful. But there’s no way it’s going dissuade those who think NYT belong somewhere around Daily Caller.

Yes! Wonderful. Today’s was pretty heartbreaking. Jonathan Blitzer, who has been in El Paso, was on with Terry.

Did not know that, but it explains the gift my son and roommates received from one of the fathers. Thanks for telling me!

Thank you!

I’ll check it out - I have a sister and brother-in-law that would really enjoy digital access to the NYT.

(I don’t know if I should admit I forgot the Times’ nickname!)
