Discussion: Ex-MS Governor: I Forgot I Was Carrying Loaded Gun As I Went Through TSA

The only way you would have forgotten that Bubba is if that gun was sewn into your amplitude.

You don’t forget you have a loaded gun. That type of carelessness should result in instant forfeiture of the weapon.

A key gun-safety rule is to keep it unloaded when not in use. Another key part is to know where the goddamn thing is most of the time. FFS. This is seriously one of the things wrong with acting like it’s normal to have guns around all the time for “protection.” It becomes a normal, unremarkable object like a pencil or a stapler. But it isn’t one. It’s designed to cause serious injuries. That’s the point of it.

Admission: one time, pre-9/11, I went to SFO and all of a sudden a couple of cops were standing around me at the X-ray machine staring at me, which was kind of mystifying yet also frightening. Turned out I had a starter pistol in the bottom of my backpack that I forgot about.

Anyway I was only going to LA for two days and had parked in the short term garage so I ran back out to the car and put the pistol in the trunk. Not a loaded gun or even a real gun, but there it was.

Have to be ready in case any thugs should attack his Governorship

It’s a noisemaker. Glad you weren’t given a harder time about it.

Being too absent-minded that you forgot you’re carrying a loaded handgun in your briefcase qualifies as too addle-brained to be granted a permit to carry a gun. In a sane world, anyway.

Ah…come on…cut him some slack. His manhood extension has truly become a part of him. It’s always there so it’s easy to forget it.

Honestly, I would hate going through life thinking I needed a loaded gun on me at all times. It’s one thing to go hunting or target shooting, but otherwise, that’s just no way to enjoy life.

I hope he’s just pandering to the crazies in his Party with this. I suppose that’s better?

Well, Governor, I sure hope you don’t forget it’s loaded when you aim it at your head and pull the trigger. I’d be heartbroken, because all I could do at that point would be to send my thoughts and prayers to your family, and, heart-felt as these would be, they wouldn’t bring you back.

Sure don’t miss this fucker. He was KAC before there was a KAC. Still got those lyin’ chops.

There are tests for this illness, and even medication, though no one really talks about a cure.

See DSM-5 301.0 (F60.0).

There sure seems to be an epidemic of “I forgot” and “I don’t remember” and I can’t recall that" etc. recing through the Repuglican party. Are they all manifesting Alzheimer’s?

He was RNC before he was Governor, no? The one before Michael Steele, maybe?

Barbour has a history of rationalizing unethical and illegal behavior. This story doesn’t surprise me.

I think so. His asshole CV is extensive and goes way back. I think there was an Atwater connection too.

What a likely explanation, and it was not even his fault. Uh huh.

He is just another effen moron who can not keep track of the loaded gun he feels compelled to haul around with him.

Well, Haley Barbour is a rightwing scumbag, and walking around with a loaded gun is a disaster waiting to happen. So there’s that.

However, I still think he handled this episode with remarkable grace. No excuses, no accusations against anyone else, taking blame and responsibility and applauding the law enforcement people - I could think of more than one “important” person who might have reacted differently. He deserves a bit of credit for this (if for nothing else).

Nope. He lives in fear. They need the constant presence of a gun because they are afraid of their fellow man.
