Sorry, but I don’t think of this guy as a whistleblower. What he did was wrong and he knew it.

How is that not a whistleblower? I think it’s admirable to say “yes, this was illegal, but the American people needed to know the truth.” Obviously each situation is different depending on whether your leak would likely or actually put people in harms way.
Leaking because you feel "FBI investigations treat minority communities with “suspicion” and “disrespect” is not blowing the whistle on criminal or other improper activity within your agency. It is simply an excuse for shooting off your mouth to reporters.
Nope. I don’t think you understand what whistle-blowing is. Knowing the FBI treats members of a minority community with disrespect and undue suspicion is in the public interest. And that alone makes his disclosure an act of whistle-blowing. You may not agree with what he did, or believe he should still be punished – heck, you can denigrate what he did as shooting his mouth off – but that is more an excuse to justify your own prejudicial views than a critique of his actions.

Phew. Thank God he didn’t leak the documents that show all the FBI investigations into white nationalist, nativist, Constitutionalist, alt-Mormonist. Yessirree, thank God he didn’t show all the prejudice against those guys.
Considering his blithe, dispassionate - if not downright acerbic - lack of sympathy for Reality Winner, whose ouster resulted from his organization’s sheer negligence, it wouldn’t surprise me.
His hate on for Hillary Clinton (and anyone who mentions the espionage campaign conducted on the election- both informationally & indrastructurally, to a degree that is matched only by Trump and/or Putin and their supporters) seems to blind him with contempt. Most likely, it’s how he sublimates any guilt that may stalk his subconscious over how his polemics helped elect Trump - and thus, to the same extent, share in the blame for the tragedies rippling in the wake of (yet another) bogusly elected Republican.
Assuming he’s even capable of self reflection. He seems incapable of penitential guilt. Even if it’s for the most direct, yet meekest of cruelties, like grouching on someone in the morning, it would always be the other party’s fault.
