Discussion for article #235313
Before all of the recent revelations I might have regarded this story as an anomaly and an insult to good cops in Philadelphia. These days I believe itâs happening everywhere.
These fuckers need to be sent up river. What the hell is wrong with people? Police departments across the nation need to do a lot of soul-searching and a LOT of community outreach if they ever want to earn back the respect they deserve but certainly have not earned. Iâm seeing more and more why so many have never trusted law enforcement.
It shouldnât be a crime to simply possess drugs.
Too easy for cops to plant drugs and boost their arrest numbers.
Can we now end the Republicanâs horrific âWar On Drugsâ? It is a national embarrassment . . . . . . .
Racial profiling is also done against whites as we see, but obviously FAR more against minorities. Still pretty funny how they targeted geeky white kids.
Jail time for these clowns.
Itâs hardly just a Republican policy, there isnât that great a distance between R and D on this issue.
Police corruption is a hallmark of an undeveloped third world country.
Wow, really? I was coming here to comment that this isnât news, itâs business as usual and well known by everyoneâŚbut I guess there are people who really did think the police cops were honorable people who played it by the book. And that may very well be true, it just means we donât know what book they play it by.
Nope everyday experience and has been so from day one, it is name of the game,
This will continue unchecked as long as departments are allowed to profit from this kind of activity.
And profit from asset seizure.
When cops plant evidence etc to enhance arrests for murders (see Rochester, NY Police Chief and Chief of Detectives). Or when they accuse someone of molestation, âbecause we are like other cities, it also must be hereâ (from Texas for this one). The planting of drugs and thief are just SOP.
This is what we knew as poor kids growing up in tough parts of NYC 60, years ago and we sometimes had relatives who became cops or firemen, knowing that swag was part of the compensation package. The tendency to corruption is a temptation to even the most idealistic, when given unchecked power and dealing with the societal stresses that leave many of their charges vulnerable. I bet the cops and firefighters in Scarsdale, or Upper Montclair, donât loot the houses after breakins and fires.
An equal opportunistic diverse group.
There has to be some logical, effective way for the public to have oversight. If police departments are not kept in line then they are little more than any other gang.
If youâve seen âGimme Shelterâ, the Rolling Stones concert at Altamont, try imagining the Hellâs Angels as wearing blue uniforms and badges. Itâs not unimaginable, it actually makes sense.
