It’s funny how a certain story can stay with us. I heard a Walmart employee interviewed a few years ago. She said that they often got their work schedules changed at the last minute. In her case, they called her the night before to work on the day of her son’s high school graduation. She found someone else to take that shift and talked to her boss, explaining the situation. Walmart’s response - we don’t care; show up tomorrow or you’re fired. Since then, I have despised Walmart and refuse to step foot in one. I know my boycott won’t bankrupt them, but it feels like the right thing to do.

I try my best to stay out of Walmart. It isn’t always possible–especially when you’re from one of the many small towns whose entire retail sector was completely destroyed by a single Walmart super center. And I have never seen a single person, worker or customer, smiling or laughing or acting like they were glad to be there. Every Walmart customer looks soul-dead, completely defeated by life, crushed by forces beyond their control. Every worker looks miserable and cowed.
This is the company that did more damage to the US manufacturing economy than any single other force by pressuring its retailers to move their production to China. This is the company whose business model depends on crushing out every small retail business that treats its employees like human beings.
Yeah, once in a life time opportunity there.

Yeah I’m the same exact way. If I can avoid, which is easy here, I do not go into Walmart. The times I have shopped at Walmarts I had no other options.
It’s called :Demand Scheduling" and is fairly common across large retailers these days along with no benefits unless you’re one of the few full time employees. Sad but true.
I wrote about her before, but she doesn’t strike me as someone who was willing to put anything on the line to deal with the big issues of the day, like the Constitutional criss that Rosenstein deals with. She had the luxury of being a conservative but enjoyed the comforts of an Obama Administration that followed the law. People like her belong in the private sector, not public service.
I know - and it is sad but true. Employees desperately want to keep those jobs and employers take advantage. My heart ached for the Mom (could be a Dad just as well) who wanted to be there for a major event in their child’s life but knew they’d lose their job.
