What does it say about the law enforcement/pilot crossover profession that this one was of the BEST people?
Great vetting process…
The logical conclusion of Trump’s; “If he says nice things about me, I will say nice things about him.” policy.
Trump is a sucker for flattery.
“Mr Caldara is no longer employed by Eastern Air Lines. We wish him well in his future endeavors,” Eastern Air Lines chief executive Ed Wegel said in an email.
We fired him because we just discovered he’s reckless and dangerous, but we still wish him all the best.
From the article:
Retired police officer Vincent Caldara last year pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for allegedly, intentionally ramming a former colleague with his car … In another incident, a woman sued Caldara for driving his Harley-Davidson motorcycle into her, causing her serious physical harm.
Just the kind of guy you want flying a plane. ![]()
What the article left out was that Caldara was also chair of Trump’s Florida law enforcement coalition.
As for his behavior, Isn’t a penchant for violence a requirement to be a scampaign supporter?
Different Day,
Same Drumpf
Eastern should have known about this before hiring.
You would think that Eastern would know better than to hire someone who has a known record of ramming vehicles into things and people, and putting him in charge of a huge airliner.
Sounds deplorable to me.
At the risk of being incredibly inappropriate, I can’t help but wonder if this guy’s attempt to run over a former coworker from his cop days means that now that he’s been canned by Eastern, he’ll be inclined to fly a Cesna into Trump Tower?
I’m guessing he’ll get hired by Instapundit!
Why, exactly, is he not doing jail time?
Okay, I get the part where the dude is a violent nutcase, but I don’t get the part where they fire him. If you take Trump’s words (he has the best words dontchaknow) at face value this guy is the perfect employee. He personifies Trump’s brand of politics.
I guess there’s no room for him in the Road Rage section of their basket of deplorables.
Clearly Eastern is one of those low-budget airlines too impoverished to comply with federal background check regulations due to their incredible burden on the small businessman – er, BECUZ OUR FREEEEEEDUMBZZZZ!!!
From the Guardian article:
In Cop Without a Badge, a nonfiction book published in 1996, the Emmy-winning writer Charles Kipps alleged that as a young New York police officer, Caldara paid a $20,000 cash bribe to the attorney of a senior NYPD official in order to avoid losing his job for misconduct.
That was an incident in which (off-duty) Caldera pointed a gun at a taxi driver in a road-rage incident, then pointed the gun at the objecting passenger who happened to be a former member of Congress.
That wasn’t the recent vehicle-ramming incident, which perhaps is still in the court system.
Trump: I will loan (adjustable rate, naturally) zealous police officers like Caldara some of those Fury Road vehicles and send them into Chicago. I will get great results, believe me.
